Gotta start off with some positive things before I start or else this will get too ranty.
1. The April update did improve the reputation system to pretty much where it was before taken king destroyed it. That is greatly appreciated.
2. Adding some year one weapons into the packages is a neat touch. Granted this needs to be done across the board as this game is currently a third of the size it could be.
3. Endgame rewards are better as well. Having multiple paths to 335 is great since pretty much just the single raid wasn't a great progression system and was very reminiscent of Vanilla Vault of Glass being the only way of progression.
But there's a serious loot problem happening at the not quite endgame level. Your nightfalls, strike playlists, regular crucible, crucible/vanguard packages, faction packages, and Shaxx's weekly bounty. This is the content that most destiny players play the most.
There's some really cool loot in these activities. Strike playlists have strike specific gear, crucible has things like Eyasluna and Red Spectre, faction packages can drop spektar gear, and vanguard/crucible packages have updated year one weapons. Then for playstation there's sublime engrams which drop the coolest armor sets in the game.
Problem is all of this is stupidly rare while vendor gear and strange coins saturate all of the loot tables:
-People have had to kill omnigul hundreds of times in order to get a single Grasp of Malok which likely will have a terrible roll on it.
-Nightfalls are still dropping strange coins and ghost shells as the only reward.
-Vanguard/Crucible packages seem to only reward capes now.
-Shaxx's weekly bounty truly has nightfall tier rewards because I'm only getting strange coins.
-Crucible playlist weapons are more rare than Gjallarhorn ever was. Getting a crucible playlist weapon and a usable roll is rarer than winning the lottery.
-Idk where people are getting sublime engrams but I got one from court of oryx and haven't seen once since.
It's actually at the point now where legendary engrams are actually a disappointment because they're always class items or leg armor and they always decrypt to the same freaking thing every time.
This is the problem: you could give 335 capes, 1000 Strange Coins, all the red and blue ships, and every ghost shell at 335 and it will still be disappointing because People. Want. Guns. No one grinds through five of Shaxx's bounties for 20 coins. No one queues up a nightfall hoping they get that 325 ghost shell. No one is pumped up when their legendary chest engram turns into a 285 artifact.
Even your sterling treasure packages recognize that there are primary and secondary items. If you opened a sterling treasure and just got a single white chroma you'd be a little pissed.
Here's what needs to happen:
Strike playlist and crucible playlist:
-Flat out double, triple, or quadruple the chances of getting strike specific gear and crucible playlist weapons.
-Reduce the chances of getting literally nothing from a crucible game.
-Knock the scales a little bit to slightly favor players who get "The Best Around, On the Bright Side, and Objectively Speaking" medals to lessen that feeling of "oh if I had done just a little worse I could have gotten an Eyasluna" and promote actually playing the objective where applicable.
-Slightly harder to accomplish: increase chances for solo players who join in matches late and stick through to the end. These people keep the game alive and need to be rewarded.
All Packages: split rewards into Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary rewards.
-Primary rewards are: Weapons, Helmets, Chests, Arms, and Legs. You are guarenteed a primary reward from every package and each item has the same weight.
-Secondary rewards are: Ghost Shells, Class Items, Artifacts, and large denominations of Motes and Strange Coins. Not guarenteed but a high chance of obtaining a secondary reward in addition to your primary reward
-Tertiary rewards are: Ships, Shaders, emotes/bike horns/whatever, and Emblems. Lower chance of getting a tertiary reward.
Nightfall
-Follow the same guidelines as packages.
-The strike specific gear for that strike is added into the loot pool as primary rewards and weighs heavier than legendary vendor gear. Exotics are primary rewards.
-Strange coins, ghost shells, sparrow horn kits, and emotes are secondary rewards.
Shaxx Weekly Bounty
-Crucible playlist weapons are primary rewards. Exotics are primary rewards.
-Strange coins are secondary rewards. Secondary. Not primary.
-Shaxx is explicitly forbidden from giving me strange coins ever again.
--blam!- you Shaxx just give me an Eyasluna.
Sublime Engrams (Playstation)
-Should actually drop from things.
-Seriously.
That's it. Look bungie we're in the awkward period of the game where you're working primarily on Desitny 2. There's no need to keep the loot system so stingy.

Sublime engrams don't need to drop at all :3
-
1 Reply
-Shaxx is explicitly forbidden from giving me strange coins ever again.
Don't know about the rest, but this, sure. Last week that knob gave me 40 Strange Coins!
-
2 RepliesSublime engrams? Thought those were a fiction. Tbh I see players getting them left and right and I only got one when they update dropped, never got another since.
-
1 ReplyYou're honestly one of my favorite members of the community. The feedback you give is sensible and well put. It's unfortunate that the Devs rarely comment on these.
-
3 RepliesI'm going to be honest, but I think all the faction packages that drop gear reward too much. Yes. You saw correctly. The faction packages practically allow a player to get to endgame light without even touching the endgame at all. Granted, it would take MUCH longer, but it is still over rewarding for something not that hard to do. I'm probably one of the very few that think this, but I think the faction packages drops should be reduced to 315. Enough to prepare you for the endgame activities, but not high enough to go above them. That way, you actually have to touch the endgame content to reach it. BY THE WAY, are they ever going to bring Kings Fall back up to the endgame levels? Not by that much, by 290 light for normal seems a little TOO low.

You, my friend, are a genius.

9 RepliesYou seriously have WAY to much free time. Get outside and DO SOMETHING!

1 ReplyYou speak like a heavenly angel!! Bungie ... Listen to this heavenly angel.

1 ReplyI've found that sublimes are rather common in CoE.

Talking about the nightfall; I haven't done it since 2.0, I did it once and haven't done it since. There is no point to it anymore. It doesn't reward players for playing tactfully, the changes they made punish strategic playstyles. That was one of the fun parts about year 1 NF, if you pushed to hard and over committed, you risked having to start over. I did the nightfall in year 1 solo a lot because I wanted the challenge. If I failed I gritted my teeth and tried again and it felt super satisfying to finish it. Removing the exp buff and particle effect gives me even less of a reason to do it. Why should I struggle against a bullet sponge boss to be rewarded with very little for my efforts. The bosses are still super bullet sponges, it just doesn't seem like it because every arena now, has LITTLE TO NO COVER. The S.A.B.E.R. strike is a perfect example of this. The hardest part is at the start of the mission, having to fight on 2 fronts, with a warsat and nothing else to provide meaningful protection from enemies. The cabal strike with the 2 bosses, the only cover is the pillar in the middle of the arena. Smashing my fist against my desk out of anger in year 1 nightfalls was more rewarding because I was taught that playing strategically and tactfully meant higher chances of success. When I finished the NF I was also rewarded with vanguard exp and an overall exp/rep buff which made it worth the effort if I didn't get the drop I wanted. Nothing at all in year 2 has felt worth the amount of effort needed to complete the mission. THAT IS PATHETIC.

Sterling packs need to be fixed too. 3 weeks straight of varying gloves. Have yet to even get any boots for anything, let alone complete a set since launch.

Oh and
bump
What's the saying? Life's a _____ and then you die

Is it just me or does the Nightfall seem like a waste of time? Since the TTK update I have yet to see an exotic drop at the endgame rewards and the rewards its self have been meaningless. Ghosts? Are you kidding me! I remember when destiny first came out other than playing the raid the nightfall use to be the next best thing to get the best gear period. Now it's almost not playable. The rewards are a joke.

Crucible Rank Up: Spektar Chest Plate Vanguard Rank Up: Spektar Chest Plate Faction Rank Up: Infinite Spektar Chest plate Challenge Sigil: Chest My recent exotics... Chest Chest Chest Chest Arms Chest Heavy Chest Heavy Chest Chest ^since the update. :D

Edited by Psykotik Shift: 5/25/2016 12:29:49 AM7 boots and 2 chest pieces from crucible, vanguard and faction packages. All the boots from crucible. Nothing from year 1 yet. Since the release of ttk I only got eyasluna twice and one spare change from crucible but a crap ton of legendary class item engrams. Enough butt towels to make diapers for the entire elderly population. Rewards definitely need a look into.

Edited by TheGreatPugtato: 5/24/2016 10:09:47 PM5. 5 -blam!-ing cloaks. I'm so -blam!-ing done with this shit system of Bungies if it wasn't for the fact my copy was digital, I would have snapped that goddamn disc and burned it by now. I hope the next dlc -blam!-ing sucks so this game truly -blam!-ing dies or at least gets the blow it really deserves. Sorry if I offended any non-bungie/activision employee.

1 Replyi agree with everything you said, and it also is garbage that faction/vangaurd or crucible packages can only go as high as 330.
-
7 RepliesEdited by Black Howling: 5/23/2016 1:02:38 PMVariks has given me three Class items in a row. Shaxx keeps giving me the same pistol with crap rolls. Dead Orbit gave me the auto gun back to back with crap rolls. New Monarchy gave me the pistol twice, then the machine gun twice, with those crappy rolls. Grasp farming has probably led to Bungie nerfing the drop rate to absurdity - I can't remember the last time I saw one, let alone with a decent roll. Nightfalls continue to be an utter waste of time. I get either Ghosts or Three of Coins. At the beginning of the update decent things were dropping, but I guess we had our 'taste'....
-
4 Repliesvanguard and crucible packages, since they are the only way to acquire year 1 weapons should only have those in their loot table, all other gear can be purchased or decrypted from Engrams. besides my titan after 13 packages have had enough boots.
-
Let's talk about tracking solar grenades. O yes tracking
-
Watched my son get 18 strange coins on one character then 20 strange coins on the second. I don't even bother anymore, haven't done more than 3 nightfall runs since TTK dropped. Last one was after the April update, 320 ghost when I already had a 335.
-
3 RepliesLeast you can farm 334/5 helms this week. Took Malok down to a quarter health with just sunstrike.
-
Great post. I agree strongly. Mainly with Lord Shaxx's weekly bounty, because the bastard keeps giving me blue engrams. Nightfall is better, but still crap. I don't want a ghost shell or strange coins. At least give me an exotic I can dismantle into a shard.
