TLDR; snipers don't have any drawbacks; like shotguns and fusion rifles only viable in close range, snipers should only be viable at mid-long range.
This video proves my point. This sniper has amazing skill, so much so that it negates the reason for there to be any other Special weapon in the game. Why use a shotgun, fusion, or sidearm if sniping is so powerful?

I'm not complaining about someone being better than me.
I don't want to change the mechanics of sniping. I don't want sniping to be any more difficult at all.
What I'm talking about is balance. A sniper rifle is meant to be used at longer ranges just like a shotgun is meant to be used at short range.
As the weapons currently work, sniper rifles can be used at any range and there aren't any drawbacks.
The idea is that if someone is ADS with a sniper and I have a shotgun or another close range weapon, I should have the advantage. Currently, it's too easy for a sniper to swap to their primary, because of this, they really aren't at a disadvantage. That's why TLW and Sniper combo is so incredibly effective.
Example: if I run with a shotgun, I have to close the gap and I can only kill targets at close range; same goes with sidearms.
If I used a fusion rifle, I have to learn the charge time, lead the shot and control the recoil but I can only hit targets close to mid range.
Sniper rifles can kill at any range, making them more powerful than the other Special Weapons.
If they had a longer handling time, like that of machine guns and rocket launcher, than that would keep people from using them up close as much because they would have a harder time swapping to their primary and be punished for using a long range weapon up close.
Or maybe aim assist wouldn't start until mid range.
My point is that they are the only weapon type in the game that can kill in 1-2 shots at any range and can quickly be stowed and swapped to.
I just want them being used at the range they are meant to be used.
Preparing for salt and accusations of being a scrubby nerf herder.

4 RepliesGood points. Here's the fix: make all snipers have the same scopes. At least 8x zoom. Any good sniper knows less zoom is best. Make it mandatory to have high zoom scope and decrease ADS speed as well. I think this would balance snipers. Signed, A high volume sniper user

It should be like halo where if you get shot it makes you unscope. It would eliminate bullshit shots where you are pelting them With a mida and they can just headshot you

To pull off a point blank headshot or a body snipe and Melee takes skill and means you got outplayed simple as that... Lol

15 RepliesHonestly, snipers should not be able to sit on a single target without any consequence. I feel that if you hold your sniper too long, you should be forced into an animation where the scope starts to become erratic over the target. An effect that diminishes the possibility for rez kills. Hell, I don't care if you're good or not, if you can't even be honest with yourself that Rez Kills should not happen, then you're opinion really doesn't count. To think that there is an actual method to push revives tells you something is wrong. And yea, I think Snipers should also take a little longer to take out and look down scope. I love using my 1K star and Weyloran's March, but there's gotta be a downside to sniping and right now, there isn't.

The only changes to sniper rifles I can actually support would be a drop in body shot damage so black spindle impact kills in 2, thousand yard stare kills in 3, everything else kills in 4. If you get domed you got outplayed so get over it.

On top of all that you have people on the forums as well as twitch streamers saying if you use shotguns you have no skill and you suck. So since a lot people idolize twitch streamers and want to be just like them they copy their every little move running around with last word and snipers and it's become the norm. Then not to mention pulse rifles took another hit and hand cannons aren't all that interesting either. Last we have a company and its developers that supposedly pays more attention to Reddit than its own forum. They don't communicate enough people like Cozmo much rather respond to a thread that has no relevance to the game than one that has brings up a legitimate issue. A person who also said they balance weapons and subclasses every 6-7 months and thought it was acceptable. I remember when I was fully invested in a game called Dc universe online they had great communication with their forums. They had a section that updated people on upcoming dlc, fixes to a specific power, live broadcasts that went in depth on future changes and even teased us with a mini preview. They also had a testing server on Pc were players could test out power and any changes the developers made and then report any bugs or glitches they found in the testing feedback section. So I advise you guys at Bungie to check them out and learn how to better serve your community.

1 ReplyI get that you're not one of typical players I'm about to refer to, but I am so sick of seeing the *nerf (insert anything in the game of destiny)* posts atop the forums. Everything is unbalanced/out of wack because Bungie started listening to all the whiny scrubs that want to continually use the same load outs and subclass builds every time they play. They are unable to use critical thinking skills to adapt their play and load out to the scenario and in-game situation that is presented to them. They are the same people that run blindly into any room, and either A) get sniped immediately while walking through a narrow area or B) get shotgunned from any other direction.It is ridiculous that we are in the second calendar year of this game and there are more people bitching about the basic balance of weapons rather than the fact that there are still an abundance of people playing this game unlike Fall Out 4 in a couple more months and Star Wars, or any other game, other than maybe Battlefield 4, that has been released recently. Most games are completely dead with in 3-6 months after release. If anything were really wrong with this game why are you still playing it? That is the question every single *nerf* poster should ask themselves one and a half years into this game, and if you're not that far in you have no reason to be whining about anything in the first place because you dont know jack.

I despise getting res sniped, but I gotta say, those who can repeatedly and consistently res snipe with a high impact sniper deserve the kills their talent awards them. If you're like me and maybe need two sniper shots to more reliably end someone, pick up a praedyth's revenge clone (like the DO sniper) that's high RoF and Stability. And snipers 100% have a drawback at close range. If you want to ads to ensure a crit on your target, you'd better prepare to have that guardian dance around you, as it will take you a year to turn around.

3 RepliesSee, the problem with that about a long range weapon, it can also be affective at a closer range too. Whereas short range weapons can't have the 2-3 way (short, mid and long range) ability as a sniper rifle, because it's a rifle and can have shorter range scopes too because the versatility of a rifle. Same with a scout rifle to a hand cannon. You can use a scout rifle as affective or even better sometimes as a hand cannon at close range.

Absolute 0. -snipers in BO3 have a variety of scopes, some of them not zooming at all -no-scopes are extremely consistent -aim-down sights times are similar to destiny's -snipers do not lose their radar when aiming down sights And somehow, sniping in Destiny is limited by (justified) special ammo shortages. Sniping is Destiny takes away your Radar when aiming down sights. There is no bullet magnetism on snipers, no matter the aim assist. And people still believe sniping takes "less skill" than other specials. (That's not what OP said, I'm just putting it out there that this opinion is flawed). [b]So here's a solution I agree to: [/b] [spoiler]Limit [b]BODY-SHOT[/b] damage to 120 or 130 (same as Defiance of Yasmin). Decrease Aim-Assist across the board for the peace of mind of those who really think it a big deal (which it's not BTW, seriously, it's reticule slowdown. No big deal.).
