TLDR; snipers don't have any drawbacks; like shotguns and fusion rifles only viable in close range, snipers should only be viable at mid-long range.
This video proves my point. This sniper has amazing skill, so much so that it negates the reason for there to be any other Special weapon in the game. Why use a shotgun, fusion, or sidearm if sniping is so powerful?

I'm not complaining about someone being better than me.
I don't want to change the mechanics of sniping. I don't want sniping to be any more difficult at all.
What I'm talking about is balance. A sniper rifle is meant to be used at longer ranges just like a shotgun is meant to be used at short range.
As the weapons currently work, sniper rifles can be used at any range and there aren't any drawbacks.
The idea is that if someone is ADS with a sniper and I have a shotgun or another close range weapon, I should have the advantage. Currently, it's too easy for a sniper to swap to their primary, because of this, they really aren't at a disadvantage. That's why TLW and Sniper combo is so incredibly effective.
Example: if I run with a shotgun, I have to close the gap and I can only kill targets at close range; same goes with sidearms.
If I used a fusion rifle, I have to learn the charge time, lead the shot and control the recoil but I can only hit targets close to mid range.
Sniper rifles can kill at any range, making them more powerful than the other Special Weapons.
If they had a longer handling time, like that of machine guns and rocket launcher, than that would keep people from using them up close as much because they would have a harder time swapping to their primary and be punished for using a long range weapon up close.
Or maybe aim assist wouldn't start until mid range.
My point is that they are the only weapon type in the game that can kill in 1-2 shots at any range and can quickly be stowed and swapped to.
I just want them being used at the range they are meant to be used.

1 ReplyI'm just tired of getting body shot then being cleaned up with a sniper. I agree. Switching to a sniper should remain the same, but switching to a primary from a sniper should have the ready time of a heavy weapon.

Special ammo could scale depending on weapon type, maybe a sniper shouldn't pick up as much as a fusion or a side arm.

Or the fact that scouts are more times than not more effective than a sniper because of the massive stagger they cause for a sniper? I think you are just crying because you aren't good with a sniper

7 RepliesYou just need to adjust your playstyle. If you want to counter tlw and sniper with shotty, then get a good distance weapon such as a mida as a primary. Snipers do have a tough time against mida players since mida staggers and they can just keep firing at a certain corner. Many snipers tend to peek again even if theyre at low hp. Now to counter tlw with a shotty you have to be in range. So either your shotty oneshots your opponent or you can finish him off with a melee. Most of the shottyusers tend to run straight at other for quite some distance. I wonder how they cant see the flaws of that. Destinys pvp maps are very well designed for shotguns. There are so many obstacles and ways to flank snipers. Or ways to push them with grenades.

I agree snipers feel unbalanced right now. Maybe they should tone down shotguns so people feel like it's fair if hey nerf snipers. If you want each weapon to feel powerful in its respective range, maybe require head shots for close quarters shotgun kills? Used to require a follow-up melee which I kind of miss on the old shotguns.

10 Replieseasy peasy, alter all scopes so that guardians which are closer than the recommened range look very fuzzy and no clear head, but as gaurdians move further away, they come into focus. also, if getting shot while hardscoped, everthing is a little fuzzy regardless of distance. i think addi f fuzz to the snipers view is easy for Bungie to program in. hey, maybe now scopes of various degrees of fuzziness. just a thought, and probably most will hate it. i figure it doesnt hurt to discuss all ideas out there.

4 RepliesIncrease default zoom range a little increase ads time completely destroy hipfire accuracy Gets rid of all the quickscoping, shotgun range bullshit and enforces snipers into their intended role, a long range preemptive weapon. I'm also a fan of the ops idea of increasing swap time. If I catch you with your pants down, you shouldn't be able to fire off a close range sniper shot for 80% of my health and switch to TLW to finish the job.

The reasons you stated are exactly why agility nerfs need to be lifted off of shotguns. They were hit too hard. I'm glad Bungie wanted to remember the civil we with this meta but that shit ended in 1865. So let's get with the times here lift the agility bans on shotguns. Slightly reduce cone spread on fusions. I mean slightly.

I think what should happen is that they should drop the weapon switch time so there is no ridiculous LW BS. If they did that, and maybe lowered the aim assist at short to medium ranges, then you would probably have balance.

Be careful about asking for it to be slower, my favorite game was ruined by people bitching about cloaks being to quick to turn off and in that instead of fixing it properly they made the animation so slow that if you got spotted cloaked you were defenceless and dead before you could draw a weapon. Don't expect bungie to get it right.

5 RepliesBeing able to shoot up close with a sniper isn't being accurate. It's the high aa. This is why so many people are rolling for hidden hand and ambush. The skill it should take to snipe doesn't exist cause so many rely on the high aa. The handling times need an increase as well as ads speed. I'm for aa being lowered but not by much. But if they changed handling speeds it would curb the ability to use a long range weapon at close range. Make it more risk than having such a high reward with little risk.
