In the December 8th Kotaku article, bungie confirmed there would be no DLC in year 2. Bungie claimed "the pace of development in year 1 was unsustainable".

Bullshit.
Anything is possible if prioritized, planned for, and resourced properly.
Activi$ion and Bungie have simply decided they didn't want to devote the resources required. This is pure spin.
They obviously already achieved the development pace required in year 1 , right? (Assuming that the DLC wasn't just cut original content RIGHT? ;) )
They've already demonstrated it can be done, why not do it again?
Bungie claims they'd rather have the live team "surprise" players with new "free" content. (Never mind the fact that you must pay $10, half the price of dlc, if you want to keep the rewards.)
The whole point of advertising is to get customers excited about what's coming. Why the hell wouldn't bungie and Activision want to try and drum up hype for dlc, to get new customers?
The answer is simple.
They've already written off Destiny and refuse to devote the resources required.
We got to the moon, in record time, despite being woefully behind the Russians, in 1969, as a result of years of effort; due to the proper prioritization, planning, staffing and allocation of resources, by JFK.
This is common sense, from a business perspective.
Bungie and Activision are already working on the next project, to come after destiny, leaving a skeleton crew devoted to destiny.
At the end of the day, it is a corporation's job to maximize value for the share holders. That's all.
Destiny is simply not performing as well as they hoped, due to their own incompetence and bad decisions.
This is why all the good employees that made Halo have long since left Bungie. This is why Staten left before launch.
Hate on me all you like. I'm simply pointing out what is obvious to those of us in the business community.
Edit 1: Ok, so if destiny is not dying, but is instead doing quite well, then explain to me why Bungie would choose NOT to release any DLC for a whole year.
The only reasonable explanation would be that they expect to make a profit based solely on sales of TTK and... microtransactions.
Wow. If that's the case, the game surely is heading in the right direction! (Sarcasm)
Edit 2: The admission lies in the fact that bungie is not producing any major content updates, via dlc, in year 2.
That is bungie's own words in the article, linked above.
If the game is not dying, how are they going to attract more customers, and make more profit, with "free" "surprise" events alone?
Do you honestly think sparrow racing is going to pull in new players who are also looking at Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront, Halo 5, Call of Duty Medal of Honor Generic Shooter Black Ops 2016?
Edit 3: Lots of hate, thanks for helping this trend!
Edit 4: Evidence the game is dying:
1.) No one on your friends list plays this anymore.
2.) The lfg sites only have about 3,000 players on, during prime time, on a Friday night. Takes much longer to find/build a team.
3.) Matchmaking takes longer and 5v5 crucible matches are common. Why? The system can't find enough compatible players for 6v6.
4.) Tower is empty.
5.) Patrol worlds are empty.
6.) About 800,000 players were tracked yesterday. That's 3% of the 25 million registered users bungie claims.
So explain to me how a community at 3% of its total size is not dying.
Either bungie is deliberately being misleading with its numbers or much less people are playing the game, and that number continues to decline.
Which is it fan boys?
Edit 5: A good synthetic friend asked why bother posting if the community doesn't want to hear it.
My reply: Haha no worries.
I like to hold bungie accountable so they know some of us see their bullshit and have the intelligence to call them on it.
Not going to lie, there is also a certain amount of satisfaction drawn from the rage it induces in those that encourage the decline of the game industry, i.e. the fan boys that think microtransactions are great.
The amazing thing is most of the replies hate my post.
This wouldn't even be trending if they weren't all replying, but they can't help themselves lol.
It's as if someone having a negative opinion of something they like somehow reflects on them. How immature and insecure.

Edited by Serb the Dank: 12/26/2015 7:04:44 PMToo many edits, one sided arguments, and arguments that only work for you. Many people have friends still playing, can find games, etc. Why so hateful?
just my opinion, they might be developing destiny 2
1 ReplyI mean Bungie could be working on Destiny 2 right now...

It's not dead until there are 0 players

"This is common sense..." Translation: "I don't know what I'm talking about."

Do you think that the reason they aren't doing dlc could be because they don't want to put a lot of effort into last gen? With destiny 2 rumored to be current gen only, would it make business sense not to devote a major number of resources to a system they're leaving behind?
-
Kotaku? Seriously? That's like the Faux News of gaming. Wasn't kotaku blacklisted by bethesda and another major developer? Bit of advice op and don't believe everything you read on the Internet, especially from something as blatantly full of bullshit as kotaku.
-
Bro that's kotaku. They have spread rumors that aren't true before so I'd make sure what you are saying is fact before saying Destiny is dying

1. The development plan for the DLC in Year One was a disaster. Yes, if properly planned and prioritized anything is possible, but that does not mean that it is quality, which is why the DLCs were a failure overall in what they provided. 2. It was stated after the release of the SRL event that we will see a major content drop in 2016. What this actually is, no one knows except Bungie and Activision, but my point being in this is don't proclaim that something similar to DLC won't drop. I am not speculating that it will, I am helping people learn how to strengthen an argument. 3. It is not helpful to "attack" those who are reading your conclusion who may have a different opinion. This only builds toxicity in the community, and while this community may not be the best, it certainly is not the worst, and I personally, having come from the Call of Duty community, would hate for this community to diminish greatly because of arguments, and I want others to help prevent that.

True. Rumble isn't easy anymore. I'm getting matched with people I play sweats with exponentially more frequently, but in the bright side, it's easier to match for sweats.

Bungie admits no such thing. Nor would they, with such a success on their hands.

23 RepliesEdited by Agent NovaScotia: 12/27/2015 6:05:18 AMYeah, Destiny is dying, Star Wars battlefront is much better, same with halo 5. Halo 5 might take a long time to download, but it isn't an endless grind Da haters are real. ITS MY OPINION

So only 3% of people played on Christmas

Destiny was gonna be an open world like Rune Scape or WoW...........so sad........

1 ReplyThis is my opinion. Year one was nothing but, cut content sold back to us. I could be wrong but, what company releases a game and not even a month after release they announce that they have started on Destiny 2. So in my opinion everything up to and including SRL was all cut from the original game period. Then they announce that there will be no dlc's or expansions until Destiny 2 comes out. So would Destiny 2 be either the vex or cabal expansions they cancelled for TTK or could it be both?
-
The issue is at this point in vanilla, Dark below had just come out, giving us something to do. Everyone was only doing vault for fatebringer for the month prior, not really for fun. Right now, slightly higher light on the same gear isn't a good enough reason to play for a lot of people. There's no must have weapon anymore, since they're quest based (which is great, but reduces the stretching of content). Sparrow racing is great for the players who enjoy racing games. I personally get bored of them so fast I don't bother. Haven't done anything in destiny for over a month as a result. Won't be playing until there's something worth doing that isn't the same exact raid fight with a single parameter to achieve for a "challenge."
-
Hopefully people avoid buying Destiny 2. It's the only way to save the franchise. Heads need to roll, people need to get fired, and MAYBE then we can get a quality game.
-
It's a game. Play another one or watch tv.

fan boys are blind, for them destiny has no problems and bungie can do no wrong, so dont waste your time asking about them lol, about the game dying.... well its a shame, it could have been so much better, i just cant see any logic in some of the things done to it, i guess that $$ spoke loader.... anyway as i is im just waiting for the funeral
