As long as I have been a gamer I have never had a problem with having a super strong weapon in pve.
From the Spartan laser to the gjallarhorn to getting the cover Pokemon before you beat the elite four.
Pve has always had the main achievement be being able to stomp everything in your way. You start off weak so that you can play through the game and get things that let you kill things easier.
Since when has the problem been that you kill things "too quickly"? That you weapons are "too strong"
I understand pvp "too strong" because no one wants to get one shot before they can react to a face to fight with an opponent
But in pve how are you too strong? If you feel like you don't have a challenge then handicap yourself but don't handicap the weapons.
If the problem was with people acting elite (in the forums) with elite weapons then why nerf the damage? Why not give everyone access to the weapons?
It may just be my opinion but I don't think justifying nerfs by saying you're "too strong in pve" is an actual argument
What do you think?
Edit: holy 200+ replies. I see everyone talking about loadouts. I guess mug next question becomes if you think playing a certain way makes it too easy, why play that way? No one cares if you want to run the raid with commons because it makes it harder on you so why do you care if I make it easier for me? Isn't that my choice? User "Wittz" made a great statement
Op + pve = fun
The game needs op weapons, the fights just need to be tailored so the op weapons can't always shine.
Instead of changing weapons why not change boss fights?
Edit 2: after 500+ replies everyone is still talking about loadouts. I know y1 had a very powerful meta. My point is that that's what made it fun.
Over powered weapons are the fuel for pve because the goal is to become more powerful. Therefore people want to chase powerful weapons. Which is the problem right now because people don't want to chase mediocre weapons.
I don't think anything can be "game breaking" unless you actually mod the game. Because it was designed to be powerful, if one finds said weapon too powerful that's a personal opinion reflecting how they want to play the game.

Lol necrobump because everything feels weak now

3 RepliesBallerhorn was OP for sure. It was so OP, that it became a requirement for all LFG raid teams. Bungie doesn't like that happening, so they handle it via nerf. I feel bad for people who didn't have a chance to feel the power of that weapon.
-
3 RepliesBlowing enemies away with ease is boring. Fun at first but stales up fast. I remember putting cheats into GTA and just dessimating everyone. I had fun. For an hour. And then each time I did the cheats the game became duller and duller. It ruined it for me. I don't want to be overpowered in this. It would just be digging the hole deeper.

3 RepliesDidn't read it all, but yes, there is such a thing as OP in PVE, it is called, Gjallarhorn.
-
1 ReplyBecause no one's ever going to say "Wow, I killed that ogre way too quickly." or "Man, that boss needs more health."
-
There is OP in PvE, but imo it's fun.
-
1 ReplyI feel that the majority of people on the forums really don't understand what overpowered means.
-
Feeling powerful and walking through bullets, putting down enemies rapidly.........that's SUPPOSED to be why you, me and a ton of other people invested literally hundreds of hours into this game. That would freshen the game up. This shit? THis is getting stale. I'm not saying it's not addictive, it is. It keeps a casual like me playing every single day which is crazy. PvP helped make sure that pve suffers. Bungie keeps messing up when they don't separate the 2.

2 RepliesI just saw you mention Yu Gi Oh. There is justice here.....

3 RepliesEdited by Kayeene: 12/20/2015 4:58:47 PMI agree. One doesnt feel powerful in this game. Even vandals on earth patrol can kill you. That should not happen. In wow. Low level critters dont even aggro you. And if they do, and hit you THEY die instantly. Weapons dont feel powerfull here.

3 RepliesGjallarhorn was OP in year one. It was so good it was a requirement to join most fireteams, but it was also insanely difficult to get for some people.
-
1 ReplyI would take a gun that when shot - ends the strike and procs 3oC I'm not asking for too much.
-
1 ReplyOverpowered weapons are non-existent in PvE because the goal is to get the best gear possible...
-
1 ReplyGHORN???
-
7 RepliesI completely disagree. You shouldn't be able to breeze through content that's made to be difficult with some ridiculous weapon.
-
Telesto on the specialist/airborne nightfall was pretty damn OP. Throw a void burn mod on too 😳
-
i don't know, my year 2 ThunderLord feels pretty damn Op.
-
9 RepliesIf you've played Far Cry 3 or 4 (didn't play 1 or 2) then you will understand PVE OPness once you get the special weapons.
-
I think they should make elemental shields 100% immune to any none matching elements and kinetic damage.
-
5 RepliesWell in pve your weapons are supposed to get stronger with the enemies, in destiny the enemies at they're highest level possible the weapons were killing to fast and that's why they were too strong
-
The beauty about PvE is that anything can be overpowered if you use it correctly
-
*cough* gjallarhorn *cough*

2 RepliesThere's something stronger than gjallarhorn guys It's very underrated & many people disregard this weapon. All you need is a Titan & Touch of Malice, use blessings of light & you're golden. (Dip in & out of blessings) You have virtually unlimited ammo, no need for synths. If you really want to set a record speed for killing a strike boss as fast as possible, roll with 2 Titans & 1 hunter. 1 Titan with blessings the other w/ weapons. Hunter with tether

1 ReplyI think you may have stumbled onto something here. Since all the nerfs in pvp, they've had to nerf bosses like rockets McDickface to compensate.
-
3 RepliesDo you guys think ghorn would be as big of a problem as last year? Even with new mechanics in the raids and strikes?
-
6 RepliesI think. Presently. The most OP weapon in PVE would be.... 1k yard stare with trip tap, casket mag, and spray and play. Faster shots, more ammo than spindle, and you could use NTTE with it.
