I had a argument with my friends and he said, "If we can breathe on the tower why ca't we breathe on other planets?" We had a whole 2 hour debate on this and I want to prove him wrong. After I asked him how you would get Oxygen he responded with,"Just Breathe!" I don't think if you stick your head in a plastic bag you can just breathe right?
So I need your guys help Message G***t R*****5 he is wrong.
Edit: Also he said, "How can we breathe on The Reef if were on an asteroid?" I asked him how can we have lunar bases, he responded why can't we have that for a planet?

You can exercise your lungs with your diaphragm, but you'll still suffocate in space.
-
4 RepliesIf you tried to breathe in space, assuming you held your breath before leaving your vessel, the air inside your lungs would be sucked out of you because the vacuum of space, along with any other liquids in your body would be pulled out though the pores in your skin. You would end up like a uninflated balloon that was stuck in a vacuum chamber for 30 seconds.... I haven't completely read all of the Destiny lore so don't quote me on this, but I'm assuming The Traveler helped humanity TerraForm other planets, thus making them habitable by life.

You can but you will inhale and shortly die

2 RepliesIs this an argument with a 2nd grader?

I mean we don't even eat so I highly doubt we need oxygen pretty sure helmets are jus so that bullets don't melt our faces off xD

I mean with a suit, yes.

You wear a helmet for a reason. I hope in 500 years we wouldn't need to wear oxygen tanks. I think he's retarded due to lack of oxygen flow to his brain.

Wow. Just. Wow.

You do realize space is a vacuum right? There is nothing.

Only if you believe!

Space magic isn't a option. Wtf op

3 RepliesSo many idiotic replies here. If you couldn't breathe in space, all astronauts would be dead. Good job millennials you are doing awesome at making the world a dumber place to live.

Mars and Venus have atmosphere and plant life to create oxygen. The Reef, in the creation of the Awoken also created it's own atmosphere, I'd assume plant life is kept there to survive as well. Luna is the only place we've gotten confirmation of a need of oxygen. (Something I glazed over, but in a debate with DGhost Stories on the origins of Dredgen Yor, one brought that fact up)

No helmet, head turns into crushed tomato.

1 ReplyLooks like you need to find new friends, possibly some with an IQ over 80 and that have attended school past the 5th grade. Is this serious?

1 ReplyYou're friend seems to be either stupid or a smart ass just trying to argue. Either way please tell him to never procreate. Or vacuum seal him in a 55 gal drum and ask him if he can breathe
-
4 RepliesYour friend was probably trolling you, I have a hard time believing people can be that stupid.

Your poll does not reflect your argument, therefore is biased and confused. I would have to agree with your friend, there is no reason we shouldnt be able to breath on other planets which have been terraformed in the distant future. Also it sounds like you are trying to say we can breathe in space while arguing that your friend is wrong because he is saying we can breath in space when he is actually saying we can breath on other planets. You dont make sense. Then, theres no reason we couldnt have asteroid bases. There is no explaination as to whats in holding the gases on the reef (or giving smaller places earth gravity for that matter) so it doesnt make sense as to why we can supposedly breathe in these places. Maybe gaurdians dont breathe, and maybe they have space magic working behind the scenes for everything, but definately dont try to abuse your friend, who is clearly has a better understanding of space than you, it makes you a bad friend.

4 RepliesEdited by Ardendor: 12/14/2015 7:34:32 AMThe sensation of breathing as we experience is the inflation and deflation of our lungs. This can only happen because there is air around us, but the act of breathing comes from differences in pressure caused by our diaphragm. When we inhale our diaphragm expands causing a pressure drop in our lungs, which in turn creates a mini vacuum which draws in air, and an exale increases the pressure causing air to leave. In space there is no pressure what so ever so even if you opened your mouth to breath, well one they're would be no air to breathe and two your diaphragm wouldn't even be able to move because of the zero pressure difference. So even the act of breathing is impossible in space. Science

Exos don't need to breathe.

Yeah? I can breathe in space, cant you? 0.0

Does it really matter... I mean we are all just undead anyway
