Had to kick a guy from the raid, im not proud of it, but heres some tips for the new guys.

So I was raiding earlier and a guy joined us, he wasnt particularly annoying, until oryx. We start and after the first damage round everyone is looking all lost about what plates to go to, etc. He died once, then again, then again. Finally I suggest that we should do numbered plates and he just gets real nasty. He starts blaming everyone else and tells me my idea is stupid and not needed. He keeps droning on and on, so I use this time to look up his stats. Zero raid completions. I tell him that I looked them up and all he had to do was listen and we would help him with the strategy. He gets very defensive but I talk him down and get him to understand the strat. We got someone new in there and he decides that since he is lowest light he wants to run relic. We start and he just stands at the plate, saying he is waiting to get torn. We frantically tell him to just jump up and the orb is on the plate. He goes to make the first jump and dies. Then blames everyone else again. Then he got the boot. Point is, if you havent done it yet or need help, just ask guys! There are plenty of us who will help you. Just dont lie about it and make excuses and pass blame. Dont constantly argue with a vet! If you read this dude, check your attitude and ill gladly teach you. Edit: You guys have been great. I just wanted to use this as a tool to get new people raiding. We will teach you, we will help you, just be cool, have an open mind, and have a good attitude. Edit2: anyone who wants to learn feel free to add me. Im on ps4. Just write in the request raid help or something. We will get a group together.

  • Here's my story, for anyone that cares to read: I am a day one player, did VOG and crotas end countless times, spent many times encouraging new players to raid, helping them through, teaching them how to raid… I used the recruitment page every raid i did, never had any issues… I ignored the 'MUST HAVE' posts you see, and generally had a pleasant time raiding with random players… I took a break when TTK came out, wasn't happy with pricing and content etc, but I bought it this week… Now i am in the group of players that doesn't have experience or the best gear yet and I am really struggling to find a raid team to help me through it, or gamers like myself who enjoy the challenge, or enjoy encouraging new players to enjoy the high end content… Every post i put on recruitment page now gets ignored, and washed away by other requests of 'must be light level 310+… must have the latest go to weapon…' TL/DR - Someone help me through Kings Fall, light level doesn't dictate that Im a noob :P

It's a catch-22 for them because if they say something they might get booted and if they don't say anything and mess up they're likely to get booted. I tend to watch people and if I see that they look lost I ask them if they know what they're doing and that it's OKAY if they don't. If they lie to me even after that and continue to -blam!- up I'll boot them as I really don't like liars but if they admit that they need help, I'll do everything in my power to get them through each checkpoint. Moral of the story: It's OK if you don't know, just don't lie about it and be ready to learn and take directions. No one is trying to boss you around, we're all in this together and the best way to learn is from people with experience.

Classic normal raid beginner Just came to mind that when you said zero completions that you meant zero on hardmode? If so then i wouldnt have booted him when he started arguing When i first did hm i just listened and it turned out it wasnt even that hard :/

      • Everyone did it for a first at one time. When I joined a group I told them flat out, "I have watched how to complete the raid and am confident in theory. Just need to put it in practice. If you see me doing something wrong, correct me and it won't happen again." Now I am 318 5 weeks later thanks to that first group letting me tag along. But now when I carry newer people, if they lack an ounce of humility and rage, they get kicked after warning.

        • Ground rules: 2 chances-Only counts if it was only that person, not a group fail. If they're ok players but get mardy/squeeky then mute. If they continually annoy others or start taking the absolute p! Ss then finally they are kicked to China and back to orbit

        • My only rule when it comes to raiding is NO SQUEAKERS!!! Kids just don't shut up, it must be all that ADHD medicine their parents have them on. I love sherpa'ing new people just not children.

          • This is an extremely frequent problem I come across. The simple fact that people lie about what they do and do not know I promise it is faster to ask a vet then to try to act like u know it and hope to catch on saves us trouble and headache plus it's just plain fuc!ng annoying

                • I agree. If you don't know, just say so and ask for help. If you have an idea, share it - but don't run your mouth, don't blame others, don't lie and don't write checks you can't cash and be patient with people trying. Makes the whole experience enjoyable for everyone.

                • Once in awhile you gotta do what you gotta do. He has the checkpoint, he can find a team more to his own level and attitude. I've Sherpa'd a lot of people through raids, and now days have a regular team I like to raid with. But once in awhile I will LFG it. Usually teams are pretty decent, but every so often you're going to get one where someone tries to use that over-agressive attitude to cover their own incompetence. The funny thing is that it's obvious to anyone with experience exactly who is screwing up and why, so they'd be better off just saying "sorry, my bad."

                • Don't be ashamed by it sometimes it just had to be done. I used to Sherpa nonstop for Crota and all I ever asked was that people be honest with me. I helped run new people through KF last night and while it took some time, it was a blast. Just be honest, even if you're afraid of being kicked, better to be honest and get kicked from a group of assholes to find a good group then stay with them imo. If enough people haven't done it on xb1, I can run a group through later tonight (9pm est). Just throwing it out there

                • What I hate is when I post something in the Destiny Communities on the PS4 requesting experienced players only and yet I still get people joining in that cant run Aura, Gaze or Relic or havent done the raid at all.
