Title says it all. I'm posting this because everyone is under the impression that Bungie will GIVE YOU FREE DLC. When has Activision ever given out anything free? Input ladies and gentlemen. To all future haters unless you are a real gamer. Dont give your input. Mostly likely you're the problem.
Edit: So I didn't expect to be trending, awesome feedback! I must say most games mentioned were EA games. Doing updates and maintenance on video games is part of the 60 we initially pay for. I didn't play GTA 5 and it's safe to say the game is nowhere to be found. Destiny is unlike any game we have played before. Which is why we are still here a year later . When I played mass effect I don't recall Micro transactions , which resulted in free dlc. I hope everyone is correct and this doesn't turn into a pay to win.
Some said WoW, war frame, never winter. Now as far as WoW it's a monthly subscription so income is steady. Marco transaction there equals extra cash to use as they please. Warframe is free game, so they need to make money and micro transactions is there bread and butter . War frame is to its core a pay to win type of game. War frame is alot like destiny! Neverwinter didn't seem like a pay to win type of game, but micro transactions do give you an advantage. ESO is a prime example. You can't get a horse unless you have 40000 gold if I remember correctly. Or you can buy it off the bat and can get to places much quicker. They also had several other micro transactions.
IMO micro transactions are OK if strictly cosmetic. Other wise it's a downward spiral like so many other games.

2 RepliesA lot of us are afraid that Bungie will start going down a terrible path Microtransactions for emotes becomes popular > activision pushes for more Bungie goes to ships, then sparrows, then engrams, then items, then exotics become microtransaction exclusive and destiny becomes pay to win. personally after giving Bungie $200 for a half baked base game, 2 DLCs that didn't quite feel complete (numerous bugs, poorely performing weapons like Nechrocasm, no land beyond), and finally this DLC which felt like a good step in the right direction but still cost me $60; this just feels like a cash grab. I feel like microtransactions shouldn't exist in a AAA $100 AUD game at all, especially if the microtransaction result in an advantage for the person paying them

But it makes sense in the story. I order a special weapon and it takes time to build. I need a part for my sword, or if the gunsmith needs to investigate something, it takes time. Why bitch about this?

6 RepliesEdited by corpcrusandwich: 10/7/2015 6:00:12 AMI just don't like the idea of micro transactions for any reason. I'd honestly rather pay for DLC and have absolutely everything in a game be earned. This is especially true for a game like Destiny where we have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours building up the legend of our characters. When someone asks "Oh man that shader is awesome where did you get it?" Would you rather say "I got it from beating the new raid" or "I bought it." Buying things makes them feel way less special, and if you have to pay to make your character look cool then if you don't you will feel like you are missing out on part of the experience. Overall to me micro transactions just feel dirty. I'd rather have infrequent large scale paid for content drops where everyone pays and gets the same experience than feel like I'm being nickel and dimed for any reason. As a real world example of this, think of if you went out to a nice dinner somewhere where you were going to be spending quite a bit of money. Would you rather look at the menu and see that the soup would be $9, the steak $25, the potatoes $8, the asparagus $8, or would you rather just look at the menu and see that the steak dinner was $50 and that it comes with sides and appetizer choices. You are going to spend the same amount either way but you think less about money and simply enjoy your meal when it all comes out as one lump sum.

2 RepliesIsn't dlc just micro transactions on steroids

5 RepliesBungie didn't even claim free dlcs, Kotaku did. No comment has been made about the claim

Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare (published by EA) released all of the DLC for the game completely free and they added in a micro-transaction shop to buy in-game currency. Awesome game really.

League of legends? Hosts massive tournaments and maintains its servers/development off skins etc

1 ReplyI highly doubt any dlc will be free. I think it will fund exactly what bungie said it would fund. The live team that would add in live events. It is to fund the extra team the set up for handling issues in the live game as opposed to the next piece they are working on.

Im fine with micro transactions until it becomes anything more than aesthetics. I wont buy them, but some people enjoy the game enough to buy them. More power to em. Its also a business move and as long as its not interfering with game development im okay with it. Im even okay with paying for future dlc even though it says "free", so long as its good of course. I enjoy the game, ill play how i like

Mass Effect 3 had microtransactions for its Multiplayer mode but offered free maps, characters and content even if you didn't purchase the microtransaction. Then it had paid DLC expansions. Burnout Paradise also had microtransactions but they also expanded the drivable world and introduced new vehicles for free as well. Yes both titles come from EA, i am just giving examples.
