Right up front: this is NOT a post asking to make this quest easier. I'm working on the shotgun kills stage.
The reason this quest is utter bullshit is because it rewards that most selfish play in the game.
In the first stage where you must get kills while having The Last Word equipped, I spent nearly the entire time trying to pick up cheap primary kills while waiting for my super to be ready and heavy ammo to spawn. I didn't contribute much at all to team strategy; win or lose mattered not. I've read that boosting is happening a lot in this stage, too.
One more thing about this first stage: why use The Last Word as the requirement? This stage could have been great if it required that we use a new TTK weapon only found in the depths of the Dreadnaught, or in the Court of Oryx. Missed opportunity, Bungie.
In my current stage - the shotgun kills stage - same thing: Welcome to camping world! I creep through hallways and hide around corners to shotgun anyone who runs by. This takes forever. And once again, I'm not contributing much to my teams.
The final stage sounds just plain stupid: get the kill shots on the Shield Brothers using a shotgun. Problem is, the strike is matchmaking only, meaning I have to: 1. Run it with friends who agree to let me get the kills (my friends and I almost never play at the same time of day), 2. Run it with randoms who agree to let me get the kills (I would certainly reciprocate their help), or 3. Run it with randoms, play the bosses super-safe and then fly in to try to get the kill shots. Keep in mind that in all three scenarios, there are likely to be other guys trying to complete the same quest.
This quest design is ridiculous, not because of difficulty, but because it promotes entirely selfish play. I would really appreciate an explanation on Bungie's part. How did they think this particular quest design contributes positively to the game and the community?
Now: folks may say that I don't have to play the bounty this way, and that's true, I suppose. But, the strategy I used seemed to me to be the most efficient way to complete the stages.
TL;DR: The quest rewards selfish play: camping and boosting. Truly a missed opportunity by Bungie that contributes to toxicity in the community.
Edit: Sounds like you will get credit for the quest no matter who kills the Shield Brothers as long as they are killed with a shotgun.

1 ReplyThe reason you have to use the last word is because the manufacturer of the chaperone is Tex Machinica. It is fitting to use the last word. Also, I completed the strike part of the quest without getting anywhere near the final blow. So, there's that. I just made sure that I got a shotgum hit in at the final part when they both come out.

1 ReplyOn the strike it doesn't matter who on your team kills them it counts for everyone.

I did it in 2 matches. Not even gonna lie, grenades and super were the only things that saved me. And bad players on the other team.

1 ReplyDid the quest last night, it doesn't matter who kills them as long as they kill them with a shot gun because I got one done with my friend that killed him by accident with his Shot gun.

2 RepliesAre you kidding me? Why use Last Word as part of the quest?? Is that where Bungie lost you? Does "The only exotic made by Tex Mechanica" ring a bell?

Bump for visibility.
