In my opinion, the Chaperone is an underwhelming exotic for a few reasons:
1) it takes up an exotic slot.
2) it has roughly the same range as a Felwinters.
3) you must get a headshot for a one hit kill but regular shotguns will kill with a shot to the body.
4) the perks are pretty lacklustre.
5) you can get a higher agility boost using the MIDA.
6) it's a single slug shooter which should mean it has better range than buckshot but it doesn't.
I think it is a fun weapon to use but it is a trophy weapon and no more. Will people be using it after they've played about with it a little? Probably not.
Edit: OK for a balanced argument I'll give it some good points.
1) it has a solid fire rate
2) it has very good stability
3) it looks amazing
4) you move pretty quickly with it, especially if you're a max agility hunter.
PSA: I'm not a big shotgun user anyway, I snipe so I have no problems hitting the head but all my points still stand.

Good I'm working on it now.
-
There was almost no effort, so yes. Yes it was.
-
I NEVER used shotguns in PvP and I have really been liking fusions since 2.0 But, the chaperone is really fun to use and if you have roadborn active it turns into a sniper. Great gun and my favorite new exotic
-
They really should have gave it hc range and only hs kill
-
Its like a hand cannon with 1 shot stopping power, i love it when people stupidly run around corners. Crits are damn easy with this gun. Tex Mechanica, thank you. Ghost riders in the sky out.....
-
I like it a lot for pve but for pvp the damage and range are not enough to compete. I still rock my matador
-
Counterpoint: The impact shots to the body cause stagger. You can adjust the perks for more than enough range The perks are fantastic for pve, they are not as applicable in pvp. Ooh ahh dat look doh
-
1 ReplyGreat feel to it, fast reload, solid range. And perks that proc on any gun with a critical kill, even your primary. Hell yes it's worth it.
-
Well at least i wont regret not bothering to get it
-
not sure. I completed it in about 4 hours the day it was available. Got to wait for next reset.
-
2 RepliesI am in a predicament right now. Why? The Chaperone is what I will be using for Iron Banner, but I can't find a good Legendary primary to accompany it! Chappy's that good.
-
How do you get the quest?
-
For pve it's great for crucible it's decent good shotgun melee kinda gun though lately I've been using a scout rifle side arm combo
-
I love mine
-
The only problem I have with it is that I think the base range should be increased. It sucks to be killed by a guy with a shotgun when both shoot but only you die because you have to hit at the same range but with a headshot and and ONLY that. Besides that, I think it really is a solid weapon in Crucible. Lots of fun.
-
11 RepliesHow the hell did you beat the shield brothers? It is insanely difficult
-
1 ReplyPeople are saying that you could just use felwinter's class shotguns and perform better, but they're missing one thing. Where will those shotguns be when Iron Banner and Trials come out? (Aside from the year 2 Party Crasher, but there's no guarantee of a perfect roll on it) I know I'll definitely be using the Chaperone for these events and even now I'm having a good time with it. Also, it's the only shotgun I can perform well with and not feel like I'm using a crutch.
-
9 RepliesThe gun is amazing and if you don't think so then you probably suck at crucible. Someone with good stats please try and tell me otherwise please try me.
-
Not the best for pvp but loving it in PvE. It helped me out getting my exotic sniper!
-
Didn't like it at all.
-
It's the ONLY shotgun that takes SKILL to use. I have no shame getting kills with it for they are well deserved. Plus inlikenthe sound effect when you reload. *cracks whip*
-
This thing's now my go to shotgun in crucible. Really good rate of fire (which increases with perk active), good range, and overall fun to use
-
Love the chaperone, i don't feel cheap when killing people in the crucible. It's a skill based shotgun, that's why i like it
-
It works really well for killing golgoroths killer orbs in the raid too.
-
1 ReplyI have invective so no reason to use chaperone.

Edited by LTCcherno: 9/24/2015 6:45:56 PMAll you have to do is aim a little more upwards than you do with a standard shotgun. The hitbox is bananas. And the range you can get when Roadborn procs...... Vid: https://youtu.be/X8qeUKnvONw The Chaperone is fantastic. If you disagree you suck with it or are trolling. Case-closed.
