I'm sorry for what you've been through. I think it's wrong that Christians have done such things to you guys.
My heart goes out to you all.
No one should be treated this way. It makes me sad that people have represented Christianity as a hateful and judgmental, religion.
I'm a Christian, and I believe that everyone should be treated with love, kindness, and respect.
I hope you find healing for the terrible things that have been done to you....
I just want you all to know that I respect you and your choices. I will not be bad to you for what you believe and(or) live...
~The Orwell
EDIT 1: When I say "discrimination" I'm not referring to people who are upholding something or refusing to do something for what they believe in, but people who have been bad to others for what they do or don't believe in, or for what path they have chosen for themselves.

13 Replieshttp://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/2402644 The most persecuted religion in the world, wonder what it's is? Oh wow.

1 ReplyThe sad thing is most "religious" people who are cruel and judgmental to others don't know much about their religion at all, they just use it as a vessel to justify hatred. And unfortunately those people make themselves much mor well known and vocal than those who are respectful of other people, so they give their religion a bad name.

5 RepliesWhy just Christians? Other people discriminate, regardless of religion, race, belief, culture, national origin, etc.. The problem is humans.

23 RepliesEdited by Fotbitr: 9/12/2015 8:12:12 AMFor what it's worth, it isn't that Christians are dicks or anything, but that people are dicks and sometimes those people are trying to uphold something important to them, based on Christian ideologies. Ever hear "hate the playa, not the game"? It's sort of reversed from those, say gay, and those of faiths which traditionally frown upon such practice. So it's unfortunate discrimination exists, truly, but it's also unfortunate that people expect to be excused from perpetration because of "No True Scotsman." Erre'one's an individual, and it's hard to remember that when people choose to identify with something.
Your apology means nothing. You've never done anything hurtful to me. You do not represent anything but yourself. If you do choose to represent something, you can't be excused from the karma that comes with it. You've gotta take responsibility and own it, yeah? So stop apologizing for the sake of other individuals because it opens you up to manipulation and abuse, which you did nothing to deserve but invite it in yourself. Don't worry so much. Those with irrational hate have nothing to do with you, if you so choose it. So choose that, or accept it and let it be it. And do you!
1 ReplyThey're not Christian if they do that.

I think what you're referring to is how the church rejects those who are LGBT. If you are, I agree with you. The Church goes overboard with the whole lust thing. Just cause two people have different love than normal doesn't change the fact that it's love. I don't think being gay is all about having sex.

8 RepliesNothing bad can possibly come from those who truly follow Christ's teachings. This is not sarcasm, it is the truth. Anytime members of the church have committed evil, it is because they made a choice to go against Christ. I feel it is wise to remember the beatitudes of Jesus Christ, but also the woes of the Pharisees, for they both very much have worth today:
Hypocrisy: They taught about God but did not love God - they did not enter the kingdom of heaven themselves, nor did they let others enter. (Matt 23:13-14) Hypocrisy: They preached God but converted people to dead religion, thus making those converts twice as much sons of hell as they themselves were. (Matt 23:15) Hypocrisy: They taught that an oath sworn by the temple or altar was not binding, but that if sworn by the gold ornamentation of the temple, or by a sacrificial gift on the altar, it was binding. The gold and gifts, however, were not sacred in themselves as the temple and altar were, but derived a measure of lesser sacredness by being connected to the temple or altar. The teachers and Pharisees worshipped at the temple and offered sacrifices at the altar because they knew that the temple and altar were sacred. How then could they deny oath-binding value to what was truly sacred and accord it to objects of trivial and derived sacredness? (Mat 23:16-22) Hypocrisy: They taught the law but did not practise some of the most important parts of the law - justice, mercy, faithfulness to God. They obeyed the minutiae of the law such as titheing spices but not the real meat of the law. (Matt 23:23-24) Hypocrisy: They presented an appearance of being 'clean' (self-restrained, not involved in carnal matters), yet they were dirty inside: they seethed with hidden worldly desires, carnality. They were full of greed and self-indulgence. (Matt 23:25-26) Hypocrisy - They exhibited themselves as righteous on account of being scrupulous keepers of the law, but were in fact not righteous: their mask of righteousness hid a secret inner world of ungodly thoughts and feelings. They were full of wickedness. They were like whitewashed tombs, beautiful on the outside, but full of dead men's bones. (Matt 23:27-28) Hypocrisy: They professed a high regard for the dead prophets of old, and claimed that they would never have persecuted and murdered prophets, when in fact they were cut from the same cloth as the persecutors and murderers: they too had murderous blood in their veins. (Matt 23:29-36
1 ReplyBig deal, really. Christians have suffered more at the hands of Muslims during the conquests of the Ottoman Empire and subsequently the Bolshevik yoke of the Soviet Union than a few minorities have in the Western world. As a Christian, I feel no shame nor remorse for what some people have suffered under Christendom. Until the Islamic world laments of Mehmed the Great, the Asians of Genghis Khan, the progressives of Stalin and Mao Zedong, I see no reason to feel guilt nor lament for what some of my people have done throughout history.

Why people started thinking that just because the bible says that certain lifestyles are wrong means you have to hate the people who live them is beyond me

anyone can claim to be christian and then hurt people i can call myself a humanist and go on a killing spree a true christian emulates christ who never injured or insulted anyone. does 'turn the other cheek' ring any bells

EDIT 1: When I say "discrimination" I'm not referring to people who are upholding something they believe in, but people who have been bad to others for what they do or don't believe in.
You realize the people perpetrating honestly, whole heartedly believe in what they're doing, right? I've never been shamed by someone who doesn't care. My loved ones have never been attacked by people who don't care. It's because we all care about things that it gets difficult. You're trying to remove yourself from the situation again and that isn't right. There's no difference between the two sorts of people you describe - just some of those people are less inclined towards action than others. How strongly they feel about different things varies. These are complicated, real people we're talking about.
