To be honest, why do we put so much emphasis into rewarding the veteran players? They just announced that long term players will recieve a bonus but you still want more? This is the type of entitlement thing that baffles me. Im glad that they keep releasing new things. It is a reward to me to keep being able to put this game in and have a blast with my current circle of friends. I dont need extra shaders or emotes or exp boosts to keep me playing. You play their game, they offer more to keep you playing via dlc's bc enough people love this game enough to want it to stay relevant, and we need some sort of bonuses on top of bonuses? I dont remember any other game that literally kept giving out free stuff just because youre there a year later...(granted i dont play mmo's often nor long enough, but my guess is that this wouldnt be the case. Even if it were, bungie has a sort-of mmo model, but they have avoided such comparison)

  • Well maybe I'm dating myself but it used to be that you earned new maps, weapons, and cosmetic items by being a dedicated player and overcoming the game's different challenges. So yeah, I do get irritated when a developer looks at every little shader and emote as a chance to drain a few more dollars from their paying customers. I don't mind that the developers rightly have to charge for dlc's to keep the game progressing but I detest any microtransactions that create winners and losers based on who has the most disposable income. Unfortunately, that seems to be the direction that Destiny is heading. If you and others enjoy the game and continue to support it with your purchases, that's perfectly fine. Personally, I'll be more than content with the games I have until I can completely lose myself in Fallout 4. :-)

  • I dont think any of this indicates that destiny is moving to pay-to-win, as all of these things will be basically cosmetic.

  • XP bonuses give a distinct advantage. It's just a slippery slope that, historically, Activision has no regard for.

  • Distinct advantage? Thats being a little loose. You are still going to need a ton of bounties to level exotics. A person with an exp bonus who plays 2 or 3 times a week will get about as much exp as i do since i play alot. And it takes about 12-18 solid bounties to lvl up a new legendary now, so depending on the boost, i dont think it would make a huge deal, especially with their new streamlined etheric light system. Any other game i could see it, but its really splitting hairs in Destiny.

  • Yeah it is splitting hairs. But, like I said, I'm more worried about where this is leading - for Destiny and the video game industry as a whole.
