I use dragon's breathe pretty successfully on Crota, as mentioned the flare helps and I haven't seen him move as a result of it, easy to hit him with it too, just aim for his feet, even if you're a little off it has such a large blast radius that it still damages him.

The worst is when that's all they have and you just constantly see their rockets whizz by crota.

It might be kinda good, the flare thing might help bring down his shields

It helps for constant damage, but primaries right after you shoot your rocket works better. The solar flare makes him move too much and can mess the sword bearer up IMO. Plus, I don't trust people without tracking, I've seen too many rockets fly right past him into no mans land.
