RNG. Be honest with us, it's not random is it?

Developer Guardians lets talk. This week from my weekly raids and nightfalls between my titan and warlock I got 2 suros regimes and 2 icebreakers. On my hunter I also got Mida Multitool (this is the 3rd time in the last few) Prior weeks of raiding, I've also gotten multiple No Land Beyonds (3 or 4) from Crota. Prior to that, I got multiple hard light drops. Also, any weapon that I buy from Xur, usually it is one of my next drops. This happened with Truth, Ruin Wings, Hard Light, Dragons Breath, No Land Beyond and a few others. My very next exotic drop was what I just bought. It seems more like players get "tagged" to certain weapons. Maybe it is by play style? But it seems like for example players who did not BUY Gjallarhorn either get it alot or not at all. Most people on my friends list either have gotten it to drop 6 or 7 times or not at all. Same with other weapons like Thunderlord and Hawkmoon. With the hundreds of guns and their thousands of rolls available to drop, I find it extremely difficult to believe that it is possible to get multiple drops in a row of the exact same weapon, especially the exotics which have a much lower drop rate (same goes for Xur's loot table -- how does the same piece of gear arrive 2 or 3 times in a row or 2 times in 3 weeks, multiple times with diff pieces if its totally random?). That's like getting 777 at the casino. 1 or 2 times cool. But If you do it 3, 4 times in a row, security is going to be hollering at you in the back room lol Not complaining about the drops themselves at all. But, the way drops work do seem a little weird in the game. Also My feedback, it would be nice if starting at House Of Wolves, your available weapon drops from weekly missions were completely different from the weapons already at the vendors (not just different rolls of the same weapons). Getting "Another NiTC" 50 times is kind've like undermining the purpose of enduring the increased difficulty, Especially when there is already not much else for Guardians to spend their Vanguard Marks on. And, lastly, at the stage, most of us who can actually do the nightfall have moved on to Radiant shards / energy. Keep them in the raid, cool. But take Strange Coins and Ascendants OUT of the Nightfall loot table. Seriously. Move them to the Weekly Heroic. Thats infinitely more valuable than Blue Engrams. I know lower ranked players still need ascendants... But a player ranked at a much lower level is Not even meant to make it through the Nightfall lol... Its hard at lvl 30, I doubt someone half that rank will be in nightfall trying to get ascendant energies. Go through all that just to get 2 shards. Or 8 strange coins. Seriously. Think about it. Thanks

  • I doubt rng is rng... when i played some of the weapons seemed to have higher chances to drop in certain weeks. One week i get 5 patience and time, the other week its 4 dragons breath... even had a gally week with four drops... the week HoW launched. I recieved numerous vex mythoclast drops so far but no crux. For a clan mate its tje opposite. No way rng is rng in destiny ^^

  • its rather simply actually the way i see it is each item has a 'weight' weapons you have already gotten are givening a higher 'weight' making them more like to drop again. Its still RNG based though if the RNG is based off the numbers 1-10,000 extoics would only cover 1-100 everything else is well anything but exotics so its like a 10% chance of getting a exotic during possible exotic drop areas and then a second RNG comes into effect where each exotic has a number say 1-50 but exotics you already have will have more possiblities of being the exotic you get. Sadly this mean some people will never get that one exotic they need to complete their collection while their friends who already have it will get it again and again.

There are a lot of things we don't know about the loot tables, like whether the probability of a given weapon is the same for any other. Anyone who's ever played D&D knows that the loot tables were not uniform :) However, let's say the probabilities are equal for each gun. Leaving out the guns only obtainable by bounty or raid, I count 17 exotics. I set up a spreadsheet to generate 30 random results between 1 and 17. The trial I am looking at now has one gun being picked 5 times, two 3 times, one 2 times, 4 none times and the rest once. So, in other words, a little under 1/3 of the guns would not have been awarded to you given this scenario. Refreshed, and this time two 4 times, one 3 times, two 2 times, six no times, and the rest once. I ran this about 15 times, and 3 times I came up with results where 7 or 8 guns were not awarded in the 30 rolls. Random does NOT mean uniform. In fact, if it is uniform in a "small" sample, the data has probably been manipulated :) Edit: I decided to run 20 trials, and count how many guns were never awarded. The average turned out to be 2.85 with a median of 3. Out of these there was always at least 1 gun never awarded, and in 4 of the trials, 5 were not. Something else I eyeballed was that it seemed somewhat consistent that 4 or 5 guns accounted for half of all the selections.

    • I think I kinda have RNG figured out. It's a tiered lottery box!. I haven't been playing long yet my vault is full of legendary's . The reason being is I was that slightly underpowered annoying guy, that stopped to shoot everything on strikes. I noticed that I was getting a legendary every couple of strikes, where the better players who ran past the enemy's got blue engrams. So it works like this. Two people put their name into a box to win a prize. Except one guy puts in 1 ballot, the next guy puts in 300. Now the guy with the 300 should win, but there still is a chance he doesn't.(Maybe someone else put in 1000). So how do we get the 300 ballots? Well I think if your slightly underpowered, the game is designed to reward you having to try harder an shoot more bumps you up a tier, and gives you a higher "number" of ballots. Same is if your killing more enemy's and causing more DPS. It gives you a higher number. But at the same time you have to shoot enemies to "enter" the ballot. So if it's a tiered system, it would make since that they have a table of "Prizes" to be won, which I think Bungie changes at will, but would also explain why suddenly every one is finding icebreakers at once, and not the plethora of other weapons. ***The other thing that goes into the calculation is your vault inventory/character level. (Which is why they haven't given us more vault space) I think it calculates that if you have Weapon/Item A then you don't really need Weapon/item B and gives a much lower number of obtaining it. e.g when I started out I needed Energy Shards but kept getting Ascendant Shards. So I wasted all the Ascendant Shards on useless armor and built up my Energy shards to 3x of what I needed.. Guess what the game flipped and started giving me Energy shards instead. So I made sure I keep X amount of Energy shards around and it seems to be working. Last but not least, I think there is also a "How terrible you are factor or death factor" I have a friend who is probably the worst player in the game. I have to revive him constantly!!. But he keeps walking away with double or triple legendary engrams. The game rewards him giving him a higher number/tier for the simple reason.. So he doesn't get frustrated and quit! I've had the same experience in PVP. The two times I've got exotics, were both times I was getting completely trashed in a game mode that I didn't like. I call it my "Sore loser trophy" lol I think what we need to do is look at what players who recently got the "gjallarhorn" and their inventory/lvl and how many times they died before Bungie changes the parameters.

We have already Proved a long time ago that "Xur is NOT random even though Bungie originally said that he was. Our scientific proof comes from a simple calculation of the odds of how many weeks in a row he brought the same shit. The other NITC for bungie was admitted by one of the leaders within the company...David Deage aka Deej where he was recorded on tape laughing it up how dumb we were for believing it was random, he said," Xur is in fact not random at all, actually decided by a team at bungie every week, I often stop by and ask them or try to find out what he will have and they always respond by saying to me, Deej are you asking as a gamer? Or as a concerned member of the management team?" So do I think there may be more to it than RNG? ancient astronaut theorists say "yes"

I just hate getting strange coins and those lame legendary weapons from the nightfall. I've gotten a Pest Control Matrix for both of my characters the last 3 weeks. This week I got a double drop of NLB from Crota on one character and a double drop of Monte Carlo on the other charcater.

It's RNG until the first time something drops. Then the game doesn't care and makes it rain

It's random enough to troll all of us. Who could engineer such a vile loot system? We'd better throw our money at the screen and find out in September!(Sarcasm). But seriously, I hate the RNG in this game, It's like it is the antithesis of fun.

              • Tl;dr. Do you know what it would take to be able to predetermine drops for all players, for all activities? If you could only putbit into perspective, you'd bel8eve in RNG.

              • Of course its not random bungie prob has a set number of gallys that they give out to new owners each day to control the number of pple that have it.

              • Since day one every time i buy something from xur it ends up dropping in the nightfall. As far as the raids go it took up untill a couple weeks back for me to get my first fatebringer and before that i was alway getting the same things. Hell if xur sold the fatebringer id be guaranteed to have the drop in the nightfall and all three of my characters would have one lol.

I have friends that have had 7 or more ghally's, but others in the group including myself never received it. But I have probably gotten 7 or more vex and a friend with ghally has never received the vex. Something not right it has to be tagged, not all account but some I believe are tagged.
