All the talk of xxxxxxx 2/3/4/5/XI/whatever got me thinking - what series do you think should end, for good or bad reasons?
I may take a lot of crap for this, but I think Borderlands should be done, 2 was awesome but TPS lacked. I just don't think they can do another game justice either through gameplay upgrades or story/setting. Rather than milk the franchise, use that creativity and talent for a new IP (which seemsvto be what they're doing with battleborn). I'm not saying kill it because of (my perceived) failures of TPS, I'm saying kill it coz they did a great job.
Which series would you kill off and why?

4 RepliesIn my opinion, no series should extend beyond three. That's plenty of time to create a compelling world and story. As long as you allow enough time between each game and pack each game with an appropriate amount of content, three will satisfy the players. That's just the main series; I don't mind spin-offs, and I don't mind remasteries. One prequel maximum. I am all for redemptive sequels. If the first one tanks, and the studio is willing to try and fix it, I appreciate the effort.

3 RepliesFinal Fantasy. They're up to the official Final Fantasy 16 or something. And that's the MAIN SERIES. There are something like 34 other spin-offs and related games. Plus remasters.

There better be a mass effect sequel and they better use the indoctrination theory.

Tps wasn't the next game, it was a spinoff by 2k Australia, bl3 would be awesome though

All the Borderlands sucked in my opinion. I don't know why, it was just the most boring experience I've ever had. Never finished it. Tried the second one as well, wasn't any better. But that's just me. To each his own.

Assassins Creed should stop or at least slow down. I'll be genuinely surprised if we see a Final Fantasy XVI.

There is a current trend in gaming where a new IP will come out, do well, and then start getting sequels. The first sequel is usually good. Sometimes better than the first, because the devs have had a chance to prove they can make a good game, and they now have the freedom to fix things they didn't like, implement ideas that got cut and to just have fun with their ideas. Then the third game comes out, the devs that are responsible for the ip are either out of ideas for it or just plain don't want to make another game with that IP so it gets shunted to another developer who is tasked not with innovating a new experience but with trying to keep the experience of this game as close to the experience of the last game. Or the publisher decides that the ip needs broader appeal and so everything that makes the experience unique to that IP gets lost as the devs are forced to homogenize the experience using some arcane formula of what the publisher thinks gives games appeal. Frankly, I don't think any game should see a sequel after the first one. Unless the IP is broad enough that it can be changed or altered, the devs should tell their story, create their experience and then move on to another story or experience.
