exotic bounties and making people play crucible to complete them
yes, while this OP is specifically about the thorn, its the fact that it was the first exotic bounty i got, and the gun i wanted. if it had been the bad juju i was after, this post would still exist, but the example, or specific situation would be about that gun instead,
my argument is mainly around the concept if forcing players into the crucible (or visa versa) for content. no other MMO style game does this. and as long as this concept exists, i'll always fight against it.
i have completed this bounty btw.
dont care what CoD fan -blam!-wits troll about this. this is still the worst thing about destiny. having an exotic that requires someone to go somewhere where they dont like because A) not good enough, and B) too many -blam!-y CoD fan boys is -blam!-ing moronic.
i tried tonight and with a controller im just not cut out to do it. i'd get 5 points if im lucky in a round, and lose it all the next.
worst -blam!-ing decision ever bungie. totally, utterly, and completely moronic. who ever created these bounties needs a kick in the -blam!-ing balls, several times, with a 50 meter run up.
EDIT: ok. while i till maintain my position that forcing someone to do this is a monumentally bad idea, and flawed in every conceivable way, the main problem i have with this part of that bounty (the one for the hand cannon), is that you lose 2 points on death. for those players of destiny that cannot compete well enough in the crucible to maintain a semi decent k:d ratio, this negative means that this bounty is not doable.
and the extended problem is that with this "mechanic", bungie can say that you cannot complete certain story missions without involving the crucible. which will mean that people wont be able to complete the story if they cannot maintain a semi decent k:d ratio. this scares me.
EDIT#2: possible fixes
1-remove the negative and either A) increase the points cap needed, or B) reduce the points per kill
2-have options for people to choose either crucible or non crucible content for specific stage.
3- remove the void requirement
4- make a map that will let me play any style instead of charging around like a halo/cod boffin. Let me climb and hide in corners, let me snipe and displace. The current maps do not allow this.

I do my vanguard and crucible bounties everyday on atleast 2 of my 3 characters. I am the best I play both. Get gud nub. No one can touch me. Flourish ego flourishhhh!

Look man I suck at pvp my kd is like .87 yet I was able to do these several times over... And if you can't then you won't get the gun simple as that... No amount of crying or bitching will change that...

I can understand the frustration, but it's not much different than having to do 25 strikes, or 5 strikes without dying. Plus people who hate the summoning pits but want to complete their thorn bounty. Whilst PvP is more grind like in nature, it's all just to play the game. You can choose to not do the bounty after all. At least when bounties come up you can choose between 3.

Mate, I am average (at best) at crucible, but I managed it in under 2 hours last night. I was getting about 5-7 points a match but then I changed my playing style to suit PvP and started averaging 75+ points per match, it really isn't that hard. Now I have a shiny Thorn. One of the best bounties, exciting and out of my comfort zone.

Come on bro, no one is forcing you to own thorn. It's an excellent primarily with a tilt towards pvp. As such , it requires pvp to complete the bounty. And that's fine. If you don't like pvp then you really don't 'need' the gun. If your a perfectionist, and want to own it for completionist sake then you will be now know that every game out there, forces you to play every aspect of a game if you want that '100%' or 'completionist' medal. It would be silly to think otherwise.

Firstly, thorn is hands down the best handcannon in the game, and quite possibly the best gun in the game (I was an auto rifle player till this baby changed my mind). We're talking the most valued gun in a tier of weapons that most likely will stay with you for the next ten years. This brings me to my second point. Once you've got an exotic gun it never becomes obsolete. If bungie continue to keep the exotic upgrade trend they started with this dlc, you're going to have your favourite exotic in your hands at the true final endgame. The sheer magnitude and versatility of this gun means that they're not going to hand them out like big Mac vouchers - you've got to prove you deserve one. This gun wrecks in pve and pvp equally, so naturally you're going to have to show you've got the patience, tenacity and drive to use it. Now, having said all that, get your hands on atheons epilogue and follow a few teammates around. Assists count in this bounty, so nabbing assists and the odd mop up kill will go a long way in clocking this up for you. If your k/d is above 0.5, it shouldn't take more than 500 kills, just pace yourself at it. Pick up a few easy pvp bounties from the vendor each day and play them out - you'll be looking for people to help with Xyor in no time.

I'm shit at pvp and it took around 8 matches with a void fusion rifle and void heavy machine gun. Camp the heavy ammo. Ignore objectives :)

OK so hears the deal. Its an exotic bounty for one of the better guns in the game. It is not supposed to be easy to get. It is supposed to be a struggle to obtain. If you are not good enough to get it then you do not deserve to have it.

It's not supposed to be simple to get by doing things that YOU are comfortable with. It's supposed to be daunting and challenging. Just get two very good friends to let you kill them in Rumble matches with void weapons if you're honestly not cut out for it.

1 ReplyI see that you main a Hunter. To be honest, I abandoned the bounty myself with my Hunter and picked the bounty again with both my Titan and Warlock. I found it much easier to complete having a Void subclass and Atheons Epilogue. I believe you get the points for assist as well, so that helps some. You'll get it man, just keep at it. If you're on the PS4, I'll even help you with the Xyor part. Nice shader BTW.

Bro......I suck at Pvp i think I have a .77 kd ratio overall but I still managed to get the Thorn Bounty took me about 6 hours and some really lucky games of over 1.00 KD(when I hit the bad slumps I would back out of matchmaking and take a break). Best option you have is to VoG Raid and get Aethon's Epilogue, max it out, grab yourself a shotgun with void damage, machine gun and rocket launcher also with void damage and just play Control, and Clash. I think complaining about it won't fix the issue, there are ways around it, you can play the outer edges of the Map sniping people and moving so you won't be an easy target. When you go into tight place whip out your shot gun or fusion rifle. Exotic bounties are earned not given.

Love how you're trying to put other people with an opinion that rivals yours down. The bounty took me a few days to knock out but it's not impossible, even for someone that has never played pvp. If you look at all the exotic bounties they incorporate all, or near all, parts of the game. You can't become "legend", or whatever you want to call it, if you're not well rounded. Just keep at it, it'll come with time.

Another example of why it was a bad idea to stop keeping track of scores in sports and saying "everyone's a winner". Look... I SUCK at PvP. I sucked it up and fought through it to get my thorn. The bounties are supposed to be tough. Like Lord Shaxx says, " we only give the best equipment to the best guardians who will be able to use it at the fullest potential". Quit crying that it's not fair you only got a participation ribbon when I got a gold medal.

They're not forcing you to do anything, you're forcing yourself. If you want thorn, work at it. It is not impossible, it isn't even that hard. Earn your place at the table, or don't eat.
