Focusing isn't gone. Focusing for this episode has just been moved to the tonic system. You just have to make enough tonics to unlock the focused versions to target either the armor you want or the weapons you want. They also even made it so you don't even have to do activities tied to the episode to get the armor or weapons from it.

I'm not talking about "this tonic might help increase drop rates". I understand the tonics can help with drops but it's not engram focusing.

You're right. I said it was focusing drops. I'd rather focus drops than have to farm engrams to then go back to a vendor and spam the item I want until I get the one I want. Makes it quicker if I can just make a stack of the tonics and then go play whatever I want to get rolls of the weapon or armor instead.

They 100% do if you unlock the higher tier tonics that last longer. Can't really say they don't do something when I have multiple sitting there saying they do.

Then you haven't unlocked the rights ones. I currently have 2 that focus the hand cannon and the GL for the season
