So let me get this straight for anyone else in the same situation.
December 7th - 30th Anniversary pack released.
December 8th - Destiny 2 removed from Xbox Game Pass.
So to keep current I'm out $35.99 to get Beyond Light back. (Essentially buying the game) Then another $22.49 for 30th. ($58.48) That gets me too February 22nd which is another $39.99. Grand total of $98.47?!
Anyone else a little upset by this?
<Rant Off>

8 RepliesIt's the timing of it people! Do you get it? I'll try and explain it clearly, if bungie had just coincided the removal off game pass with the release of witch queen then it would be easy and understandable. Us game passers gotta buy witch queen to play from that point on. But removing it now without a new expansion to buy is really awkward. Because we owned beyond light through gamepass... and played it all! It's old content. So now we'll be in this weird interim period of being asked to pay for something we've essentially completed and technically paid for already( $15.99 pm in Australia ) via game pass... yes I know that's for everything game pass offers but still. We haven't actually had it for free. I'll happily buy Witch queen no problem. But to stay in the game for this interim before it releases and after its removed from game pass? Yeah that's not a well thought out move nor fair honestly.

7 RepliesI am a little annoyed. The thing that I am most upset by is that it is happening right at the time when I am (happily) paying for WQ and they are effectively locking content that I have already grinded out. I understand that us Game Pass subscribers have had it good, but Bungie doing this is screwing over a whole community of players. We pay for Game Pass and Bungie would get money from Microsoft for each Game Pass player and now they are asking for us to pay again, it doesn't sit right with me. What they should have done is said that content being lost as part of Destiny 2 coming off Game Pass, will be included in the 30th Anniversary/WQ, but Bungie gotta get paid I guess. I for one have cancelled my preorder and might pick up the game again once it all comes down in price.

3 RepliesI'm actually glad that the game pass deal ends. Now I can finally stop making excuses to myself for why I keep returning to Destiny 2 again and again when I enjoy the game less and less. Personal paradox.

Microsoft paid bungie to have D2 for 1 year on gamepass. Gamepass is like ps now, nothing is owned and games will expire. If microsoft paid more money to get D2 added to xbox gold instead then there would be no expiration date. Blame microsoft, not bungie.
-
11 RepliesRemember some bragging over how good gamepass was. How unfortunate.
-
Microsoft gave bungie a year on gamepass and in that year even with beyond light also on gamepass destiny just couldn't pull enough concurrent players for it to be worth staying on gamepass sadly

Edited by skf4: 11/19/2021 3:48:32 PMPay the proper price like we all did, Game pass is just like Netfilx. Things get dropped.

So you want access to everything for no cost? Wtf? Gamepass cycles games. The app sends you notification of what's coming & going. I don't usually get this blunt, but.. If you to play everything, BUY everything 🙄

1 ReplyEdited by DJ Professor K (Timelost): 11/19/2021 1:00:53 AMAs a gamepass gamer I understand your frustration. However, with gamepass specifically there's something everyone needs to realize and remember. Games that are not 1st party titles on gamepass are almost always going to be temporary. Whether it's a couple months or a couple years, they are temporary. You simply cannot expect a third party game to stay on gamepass. Xbox makes deals with third party developers that DO expire. It could have easily been Microsoft not wanting to renew that deal. Bottom line, please don't treat gamepass like every game is staying. It's like Netflix, games will come and go. I bought beyond light back when I knew it was on gamepass because I knew that it wouldn't be permanent.
-
2 RepliesThe only problem I see is that people thought Destiny2 would stay with GamePass forever. I bought Beyond Light when it launched because I didn't want to run into this exact thing happening. Especially with WQ not coming to GP, now is the time to decide whether or not you want to commit to Bungie again.

When your Shadowkeep play-rights expire you still get to keep and use any weapon/armor/exotic from Shadowkeep even though you don't own that underwhelming expansion

Feels good on PS. None of this subscription -blam!-. Just buy it outright with no concerns. Dunno why anyone would ever think that a ongoing fairly updated live service game would stay on Gamepass forever.
-
3 RepliesAnybody know if it is because Xbox gamepass has gone to the cloud without downloaded software? I doubt Bungie has the technological capabilities to operate on that system.

Edited by Sweet Lew 88: 11/19/2021 1:23:42 AMTiming is probably odd because when they made the game pass deal, witch queen hadn't been delayed. WQ was probably supposed to come out in September. A new season was probably going to start in December. I'm fine with it. You should take to Microsoft about keeping destiny on game pass. Not Bungie, I'm sure Bungie is fine with guaranteed money vs having bro push individual sales.
-
1 ReplyYes. I was fully paid up on PC but moved to Xbox. (I don't have a game-worthy PC now) Now I'm in the -blam!-?

You forgot about the season passes and buying other dungeons. More like $200 They’re out of their mind

You are right to be a bit peeved by this. I don't know why so many people seem to jump to the defense of corporations that walk all over consumers. I have become dissatisfied with the balance of price versus content ratio in the game over the past year so I don't plan to buy the new stuff. I'm just going to dabble in the free content (which is actually more than people think) until Bungie's mania for sunsetting, vaulting, or otherwise deleting paid content is matched by stuff that offers comparable value in return. Maybe the 30th anniversary and Witch Queen will be compelling, but then again, I thought Beyond Light would be a fresh start but that expansion has been underwhelming, to say the least, when you look at what we got versus what was removed. The big thing, stasis, has been more of a pain than anything. And cool things that were introduced, like the Presage mission, are going to be vaulted. To me, the whole game now, with its endless nerfs, bugs, and tweaks, feels like an ongoing beta version than a mature game hitting its stride. Destiny 2 used to be by far my most played game, but now I am the only one in my clan even checking in for an hour or two a week, let alone playing it seriously. So if you're upset by Bungie's miscues and decisions, then I think you're joining an ever-growing club and that's a pity. Destiny offered a lot of quality experiences, and maybe they will once again. I suggest maybe waiting for a while to see if Destiny improves before shelling out a lot of cash.

1 ReplyI would happily pay $500 a year just to participate in Destiny.

Pay to Play...
-
companies putting games on game pass is nothing more than an extended demo. like the game? go ahead and buy it. don't like it? well, free demo is ending, time to move along.
-
16 RepliesWelcome to game pass. You got to try the game for free essentially. Now you gotta pay to keep playing. It’s just a hook. Destiny isn’t a free experience. The sheer amount of things in it requires more than eververse would ever hope to sustain. Pay for it if you want. Everyone is either did or is in the same situation as you.
-
Anyone else a little upset by this?
That'll probably depend on who you're asking. A lot of people paid $170 for Beyond Light, the Anniversary, and Witch Queen. So I doubt they'd be upset at you having to pay something.
-
5 RepliesNot even remotely. You got a huge amount of content for nothing for months. And Game Pass cycles games. How anyone can have an issue with free content coming to an end is beyond me. 🙄
-
2 RepliesNot upset at all. I gladly pay to play the videogames I want. Maybe you should do the same. Stop funding Microsoft and BUY THE GAME
