I genuinely cant play this anymore. Its gotten to the point, where its so laughably predictable, and one dimensional, and just so unbalanced and not remotely thought out, that its just all bad.
This wasnt the case before, sometimes you had annoying things like Warlocks, or One Eyed Mask ect, but every second in PVP is affected by an issue with the games design.
To be clear, im not a "big" pvp player, but i played a good amount around Forsaken, start of Shadowkeep.
The opinions of people who play the game all the time are irrelevant to me. Getting good at a game is not reflective of its problems. Just because someone can, doesnt mean they should or that being capable of playing it well means that its completely without flaw.
1. These maps need reworking. This has been an issue, even since D2 launch, the maps are too small, but more importantly, all the same. Widows Court is probably the one exception, maybe Javelin-4. These maps dont work anymore, and honestly never have. Its mostly just bad lanes, that only exist for sniping, not ranged weapons, theres no verticality, and way too many "pocket corners", that just have let shotguns thrive forever. Incontestable situations where the map is just actively killing you, because their forward momentum just negates the map, or incessant need to clutter it with random objects blocking LoS meaning theyre just free to run up to you. They need to be bigger, more open areas, less LoS clutter, and more vertical. The fact that most engagements can be solved by just jumping over someone says alot about how little vantage points exist in these maps.
2. Spawn location and pacing. Control and Clash are identical on some maps, due to the way you spawn people in. Wormhaven is a disaster in map design, because its literally just 2 sides slapping against each other, until the spawn locations swap. Same thing goes for Exodus Blue, Fragment, Bannerfall, Alter and a few others. Its just so predictable and lifeless. Theres portions of the map, i NEVER see, purely because the fights never push there. This "long strip" map design is bad in general, but the game spawn pacing makes it an unbearable mess, when some games just exists essentially in one corridor.
3. Special ammo needs adjusting, big time. Perks like scavenger need to not work, but even then, people can end up with double digits worth of special. The biggest issue with special though, is because of your map design, and the pacing, theres very little time, where less than half the people only have special. Not to mention, you can get a positive K/D with the ammo you give them. Thats why people ape, Bungie. You give them 2 kills to even out their 1 death for being aggressive and reckless. Snipers were a bigger issue, but since then its been less of a problem, however it ruins the meta game, when every lane probably has a sniper, because special ammo is so prevalent. People literally spawn next to lanes, and get immediately begin laning with a sniper. Thats wrong.
Someone having a special should be dangerous, but rare. Risky but rewarding. They get used more than primaries.
4. I want to have a gunfight. Why is EVERY. SINGLE. ENGAGEMENT. with anyone, instantly interrupted, but some random guy. It feels like every gun fight, is you taking a 1v1, inserting another guy on 1 side, making it a 2v1, then another guy on the other side, and its just cascading nonsense.
You can literally carry yourself by using every teammate as a bullet sponge for clean up. Thats terrible. This is partly due to the map and spawn issues, but the game congregates in these annoying 2v1 situations. That doesnt work when the average weapon TTK is 0.8s. Thats fast enough. Either increase the TTK, or make team shot situations not occur as often.
5. Primary imbalance suffers at the hand of the first points. Have faith that primaries are fun to use.
Nobody liked Halo 2, cos the sniper was the only good gun. All the guns were good. Let your primaries actually play a factor, rather than being a back up for when you dont have special, which is not that often. This is why EVERYONE is using Ace of Spades, because of course they are. Of course people will gravitate, the lowest zoom highest range option (that also has damage modifier).
Speaking of it OTHER modifier though..
6. Radar needs to be reworked or removed. Thats why people are using Ace. Because you can just ADS Radar Andy EVERYTHING. Especially with the OTHER issues that i pointed out, the value of just sitting there, looking at the radar with your busted ass hand cannon, cannot be overstated.
Radar needs to pulse, or needs to go, or be completely reworked into something else. Its so boring, and so oppressive, to just be on constant red mark watch, or having any situation where you want to flank, or take a LoS, negated cos some guy looked in the top left corner. The games are chaotic enough, but even if they werent, the current radar just destroys any ounce of smart play that doesnt involve just jumping up when someone apes you with no risk.
7. Stats need to be defaulted. This is one some people might not like, but at the end of the day, the stat balance is just a mess. Aside from the fact high stat masterworked armour and PVP dont exist in the realm, since thats not accessible in PVP besides Trials and Iron Banner, things like 100 Int, and 100 Recov, and just the overall balance of these stats is a mess. People shouldnt be getting super a couple of minutes into a game. Just keep things level. Make every stat 50, or 60, and leave it at that. No worrying about needing to get a certain rolled exotic or armour, just to have competitive stats, in a PVP mode. Its nonsense.
