As the title states.
I've been playing both D1 and D2 and I gotta say, I really like D1's style. Armor, Weapons, and accessories (Ship, Sparrow, Ghost) just look so much better. Excluding the exotic accessories in D2, of course. They had some real time put into it and I have to ask another thing: Why are the cool things exotics? Items in destiny should look cool regardless of rarity. Instead I see reskinned legendaries of every item category..? Yikes.
Now, I've played D1 since launch and I've seen a fair share of D1's very own reskins. But it wasn't as bad and it was bearable. In D1, it seemed they had a program that essentially simulated the concept legos. This was (maybe still is) how maps and many other things were made. They took pieces and put em all together. I think the map portion was called "Grognock/Grognack", or something of that variant. It looked amazing, really. Who's to say it wasn't the same for gear / weapons and accessories? Look closely at some armor, weapons, or ships in D1 and you'll notice some parts are on others. But they executed it near flawlessly and unique loot was born!
I'm just curious as to what happened there? Every piece of gear and accessory I collect in D2 just doesn't look satisfying to me. Nothing in D2 gives me the same excited feel when looking at D1's VoG armor / weapons (I'm a VoG fan)
Don't get me wrong, the style is nice looking, but it doesn't entrance me like D1's style.
Also, no gruff against D2's environment and enemies. I really like they're fresh style and hope that can touch D1 locations.
TL;DR - For your Guardian: D1 style, or D2 style?

8 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 4/12/2018 1:12:42 PMThere isn't a D1 or D2 style. Its just that in D1 you have three years of accumulated weapons and armor, representing a very wide variety of design ethics. So there is pretty much something there for every taste. I know in my case there are gear sets that I liked the look of...and others that I really didn't care for. Where as in D2, basically everything is designed around what was the style of the base game. Curse of Osiris only added one Vex-themed armor set per class....and Eververse added a second one. As usual, The Faction armor sets are "reskins" of Vanguard and other sets in the game. What you probably don't like is the fact that (with the exception of the Iron Banner sets) everything in Destiny 2 is designed around European plate armor styles from the late Medieval period..... ...and all the wepaons (minus the EDZ weapons) are designed around the styles of the various FOUNDRIES. So all the foundry weapons from a particular foundry all have similar styles so that they are readily identifiable as being from that foundry. Suros weapons all have graceful curves and sort of look like fish or marine animals. Haake has a very 21st Centry ("old school" in the Destiny Universe) **tactical** look. Tex Mechanica has a very late 19th Century ornate look. In that everything is silver plated and intricately enfraved. Omolon has a minimalist and "futuristic" look with lots of curves and rounded edges. While the EDZ weapons also have a 21st Century look. But focusing on European (especially Russian) firearms rather than the American look of Haake. I think this art-style was a good choice given the narrative choices that D2 made: The Tower and City were attacked. We lost our Armory.....we had to fight back with whatever gear we could find. Hopefully as D2 progresses the design ethic of gear will become more varied. The CoO was certainly a fresh look. But there just wasn't enough of it added to the game to make a noticeable dent in the lootpool.

1 ReplyEdited by blade329: 4/11/2018 7:55:05 PMIt's no competition. The guardians look like crap in D2. Even the ugly crap armor from Infinite Warfare looks better. Bungie couldn't even get that right in this game. What scares me is that someone thought this suit of armor was a worthy addition to the guardian wardrobe. Ouch.

1 ReplyNo brainer D1. In D2 the look of my characters was just depressing. Think clowns crossed with tramps.

1 ReplyI miss being a space cowboy instead of a space ninja. I logged on d1 the other day and was surprised how much taller my guardians looked too.

1 ReplyI absolutely hate all the armor choices in D2. Why did they make everything so big and/or boxy? I play a Titan most of the time. It’s a female. She looks like a man. Giant shoulders. Unfortunately the slimmest armor I could find was Season 1 Eververse stuff. What I have on her now is just the best I could do. Who in the world is designing the armor over at the studio? My Warlock does not want a winter coat. My Hunter is the only one that I’m kind of okay with. But even they need help. Either skin diving pants or ones that are so damn baggy I feel like my butt crack would be showing all the time. I played a little D1 today and loved how good my armor looked on my Titan. She still looks like she can kick ass, but you can tell it’s a female.

6 RepliesD1 all the way for the Titan and warlock armor. Titans now look like American football players, while warlocks are plain ugly(except maybe the Leviathan gear).

2 RepliesI miss the way my girl hunter stood in the inventory screen and the old dance and sit animation. Only thing that bothers me more than anything else

It looked deadlier, and more realistic. Titans got the short end of the stick in design, as they look like apes. They looked sick in D1.

Armour in D2 is just too shiny & simplified

I do D2 looks so damn ugly

3 RepliesI like the shader system a lot more in D2

Edited by GalaxySpider: 4/12/2018 10:18:46 AMIMO the basic ships look like actual ships in D2, how you would expect them for fast light space jumps. The more aerodynamic designs look sweet etc. Really hated the Lego look on many ships in D1 especially the ones which came with HoW. Sparrows are copies and reused models, so no complaints here. In terms of armor though, yes, D1s armor design was a lot better, especially for hunters. I really dislike that outlander‘ish look on many of the sets, including the boring lame ass looking military camo crap from ETZ (which was receycled for Dead Orbit and Vanguard armor as well). I miss my Kitty Trials Huntress...

Only clothing I miss is the slim cloak for hunters and maybe those cloaks you get from the speaker.

3 RepliesGo play Destiny 1. I still play it, most of my friends still play it, it's still alive but it's heart is barely beating.
