Ever since they nerfed shotguns I simply cannot get used to how they work. I see players using them effectively but I just don't see how.
Can anyone offer some advice?

Tip 1) Shotguns are for scrubs Tip 2) try a fusion rifle man damn Tip 3) watch the following links and see why you should try the fusion rifle out. https://youtu.be/rGLXHdcXUx4 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M-9BJgD6IN8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b0CFCmNFyJI https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mwwVzk36RqY https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w6_irLXpq3g

2 RepliesEdited by Lord Kielron: 7/3/2017 1:09:21 AMIt's a crapshoot at best. Basically aim mid-lower chest (center chest to around the gut, but no lower or higher than that) for max pellets. You are still going to have major inconsistencies for kills, as the pellets do not always register. ALWAYS follow with a melee. Aerial shots are even worse, but you have more consistency aiming a bit more towards the feet while in the air. Not saying it'll work all the time, but you can get it to work some of the time. Also, I would pick full auto a bit more highly than you once would, as the follow-up shot can help tremendously in some circumstances. If ADS w or w/o rangefinder, try and lead your target a hair (less than you would with a fusion). It could mean the difference between a kill, and a missed pellet. However, do not over extend, as you cannot guarantee your weapon can get the kill reliably. It help to have them hurt prior to engaging. As a fellow shotgunner, this is really the advice I can give, and what has helped me still use them as effectively as I can. Hopefully this helps you out a bit. Good Luck. -LK P.S. Watch out for those jerks that will punch you at point blank with a sticky grenade.

2 RepliesBe aware of your positioning and get good at following up your shots with melees. (No more crit damage on shotties ) Aerial accuracy isn't the best so I wouldn't recommend floating/jumping unless covering doorways. Try to get consistent at accurately placing your first shot on an opponent (sometimes its all you'll get) Movement is very key. Stay as mobile as possible and think of clever ways to get close in on foes or single out targets. Learn to get a feel for the weapon type. (Just play and practice with them. Handling isn't the best unfortunately) Experiment with different types of them. (Chaperone, Lord of Wolves, any strong legendary shotgun with different perk set ups, high range, full auto, etc.) Practice and play with the weapon type on the characters you play most. (This way you gain better understanding of how the weapon works alongside your character and their build.) Its all just about practice and finding what works for YOU. :)

stick with primary. unless your using ice breaker, its a waste of time using special

2 RepliesUse the chaperone, It works at old shotgun ranges but requires a Pinch of effort

1 ReplyI prefer fusion rifles now...shotguns are so inconsistent. Sometimes you will map people. Most of the time you will get a hit marker on a dude standing in your face. They really just suck now, because you really needed that aerial accuracy to outplay people. Now when using a shotgun, you must glue yourself to the ground or it will ghost.

Yes Pick one and only one and get used to its range Me Invective I have them all but since the nerf You really have to get used to how far they are and boom

2 RepliesEquip a sidearm. Forget shotguns exist.
-
Use them as a sword/melee weapon with reduced lunge range.

Pro tip: Don't All you will get is trolls making fun of you for using a piece of gold turned to copper, and bungie saying it's "balanced"

Best shot gunners these days are highly mobile. Meaning you want to be as fast as possible with jukes galore.

1 ReplyIt's really just common sense. Don't over-extend yourself when shotgun rushing, always try to catch people off guard, and know when to lay low so you can wait to ambush some shmuck wandering around a corner. In reality, you should really just put down the shotgun since you lose all your ammo on death and pick up a good sidearm instead.

Pro tip - Don't use them for they can't even point blank reach around kill anymore.
