To start, as you all are aware, E3 is underway and Microsoft just had their briefing. The public seems to have a bit of a split opinion on the event. Some say there wasn't enough triple A exclusives therefore it was bad, some say there wasn't enough games exclusive to Xbox, some say it was great because the games were interesting, etc. I personally have a bit of all of these. Let's get into the point.
Xbox, despite your opinion, had a very low amount of exclusives, let alone triple A exclusives, this year. If you watch the video (scrub to 29:30) you will see that it is an interview with Phil Spencer. What he is talking about is the issue that we have all been debating for the last few days.
Basically what he says is that after the intense feedback from fans that we wanted more diverse exclusives rather than lots of shooters and multiplayer games, he went to lots of different devs (obviously a lot indie). What he is trying to do by signing these new indie devs is spark a new generation of first party studios for Xbox. A sort of "reset and rebuild" if you will (curtosy of a Reddit user's comment).
To finish: we asked for this change. We wanted more diverse games and you can't just change what a dev does well. Phil is "recruiting" new devs and projects to become part of Xbox's first party. The change we asked for doesn't come quickly, we might see another year of this drought before we see some real big first party devs come from these newly signed on indies.
What do you think of this? Did you like the briefing? What games stood out to you? Let's keep it civil (fanboys) but let's hear your opinions. Everyone counts in this case.

Edit: I really want to watch the Sony briefing. If anyone can give me a quick run down of what happened I would be grateful.
Edit2: I no longer feel any need to watch Sony's E3 after what I've been reading. Also I feel very bad for GT Sport. They came expecting to be welcomed back into the racing genre only to find their crowd admiring Forza 7 (and maybe PC2 also). I was expecting Sony to have a really strong briefing this year. I guess a lot of their new flagship exclusives didn't have anything new to show (?) or were just not ready to show anything else. I'm still excited for them nonethless, on to Nintendo's briefing.
Edit3: Metroid 4. Damn. I was expecting it and I'm still pumped for it.
Thank you for your time.

3 RepliesAll I hear from you are excuses

1 ReplyI hate cross platform exclusives even if it's on my preferred system. It's anti consumerism.

When NMS and the order tanked but bb was the only game worth mentioning) "Its all about that console powr". >xbox focused on kinect and games "Itz all about games but kinect didnt launch so wat" 2017 >plastation: '"all about teh games and vr even tho we know its not going to launch lik wii either" Xbot: "its all about te consol powr".
this was hard to type
1 ReplySo basically its not worth owning an Xbox for atleast a few years

Edited by Pahvi: 6/15/2017 6:07:50 AMMaybe those new ips are in development hell, anyways, should say M$ exclusive, cause win 10 store, it is their platform afterall, so, why worry if xbox doesn´t bring all the moneys they´re hoping. Phil said in some e3 interview: they´re working on a new gears & halo, latter is probably XBOX exclusive.
sensible guy that phil is, or very good at pr, prolly both
i personally don´t care about any exclusive atm
dad of war allegedly runs at 60, interest bumped...a tiny bit
3 RepliesEdited by Juice: 6/15/2017 3:31:24 AMAnd people wonder why some say "PC master race" then someone complains about exclusives for consoles just play the games you want to play

12 RepliesWhy do people care about exclusives? I own both an xbone and a ps4pro, as well as play games on my computer. I would prefer to be able to play those games on any console so I didn't have to Shell out another $1200 every 5-7 years so I can keep playing these new games. (Even if I don't play then till months after release most of the time.) I don't mind it mostly, but it kinda seems like the more exclusive content you get the more you exclude players who might not be able to own multiple consoles, or might not be able to upgrade. Just my two cents.

The dev was known for FPS game's yet they made a killer new IP that's nothing like the genre they worked in. I think dev's crave new, working on the same old shit gets boring. Let them try something new, maybe thy will surprises us like gorilla did.
I'll give Sony this, they know how to take risks and sometimes it pays off.
1 ReplyIt's a nice strategy, but it's also a real gamble. You can't just depend on small indie studios and hope for the best in time. You need some exclusive triple A titles to get people interested in the system. I'm happy that those studios are getting a chance, but I don't think it will work out for Xbox.
-
1 ReplySome of those indie games look really cool, though.

I'm just happy a sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest was announced. That aside, I do like what they're doing with this, as, once they've gotten back into the flow of things and are making lots of exclusives, the diversity is going to be quite refreshing, and may draw more people to the Xbox because of the greater diversity in exclusives.

22 RepliesWell it's simple If Xbox users want ps4 games Go buy a PS4 They aren't that expensive

1 ReplyI would love for Turn 10 to make project Gotham racing
-
3 RepliesThat is the microsoft model though. It doesn't matter how much content you have. If you don't have the hardware to run it optimally or at the quality you want then what is the point? Microsoft wants your GAMES to be better. Not just shower you with content so you don't realize how shitty the game actually is. With this game some how it's was shitty and had no content and still made millions. Kudos to bungie lol

5 RepliesAs someone who was looking for a reason to buy an Xbox, I didn't find one in Microsoft's press conference. The games simply weren't compelling in my opinion. It's starting to look like this really will be my first gen without an Xbox
-
5 RepliesEdited by The Dovahk: 6/13/2017 9:23:54 PMI dont even care about exclusives.

1 ReplyI didn't watch but I think that's a great idea that will make Xbox a greater console and company. It will also broaden players game choice and make them look at games they normally wouldn't even blink an eye at
-
3 RepliesSeems sensible to me. But I wasn't miffed about this to begin with. I don't see the x as a new launch generation. just as an upgrade. IMO I hope Phil sticks around. I -blam!-ing love how this guy handles stuff.

This is the year of the Third Party triple AAAs.

15 Replies4th. What about Anthem. Wasn't that an Xbox One exclusive? ;)
-
8 RepliesEdited by ABeardedViking: 6/12/2017 10:15:58 PMWhy not let his first person studios create games other then Halo, Gears and Forza. Love or Hate Sony it's something they let their 1st party studios Have creative control
-
It's not a bad strategy. I've always argued that the Xbox brand has a bit of an image problem. Halo, Gears of War, Forza and FPS's in general may have been good enough for the 360 era but if Microsoft wants to expand the playerbase of the Xbox brand, then they need other exclusives, exclusives that don't involve FPS's, have Space Marines or Zombies. In many ways the closure of Lionhead and the death of the the Fable franchise and the Cancellation of Scalebound were a huge blow for Microsoft because the Xbox brand desperately needed games like these. I wasn't wowed or impressed by most of Microsoft's E3 showing but I do appreciate the need to rebuild and grow. Maybe one of these developers will make the next Journey, Resogun, Hyper Light Drifter or Minecraft and that could end up being a real coup for Microsoft in the long run.

2 RepliesThey should peddle Xbox X with elite controllers if they want to sell the units
-
My guess is that after Ryse, Titanfall, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Quantum Break, publishers decided the money to go exclusive was not enough to give up 2/3 of the console market. Meanwhile, Microsoft has done a poor job of developing and nurturing their in-house studios. They also made a poor bet on Gears and Halo. The market is flooded with competent shooters and both franchises have seen better days. This really all goes back to pre-Nadella Microsoft. As better as the company is now, developing games takes time and I don't see Microsoft as patient company.

12 RepliesI don't mind indie games, and I know that many people were tired of TPS and FPS games, but why is the solution 2D side scrollers? Why not an RPG? This is why many people are getting tired of these indie games, they mainly work on side scrollers. Side scrollers are fun but offer little replayability and tend to be over priced.
