Here's my dilemma, Guardians.
I have been a member of Xbox Live for 10 years. Done most of my adult gaming on Xbox. Been a fan of the platform. Recommended it to friends on the fence, etc etc etc.
A few weeks ago, my 6mo old $150 Xbox One Elite controller broke. RB button lost its springiness. To make the rest of this story short, Microsoft told me that the controller has a 90 day warranty, and that I was out of luck. There is no fixing them, they only replace.
I think it's ridiculous that such an expensive accessory has such a short warranty. This is their premiere controller - their "pro" controller - and 90 days seems like a slap in the face as far as standing behind a product goes, especially when the console (and the controllers that come with it, for the record) have a 12 month warranty, which is what I assumed the controller had.
Anyway, the experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. So much so, that I want to leave Xbox Live and buy a PS4 and continue my gaming career over there.
But. Destiny.
I don't have a tremendous amount of time in Destiny, but it's enough. All my progress, weapons, armor, Grimore, stats, and friends accumulated over time would be gone. This game (or more specifically, my Destiny legacy) is the only thing keeping me from buying a PS4 and Destiny today, and selling my Xbox One on Craigslist.
Sure, there are advantages. Well, one advantage. PlayStation exclusives. And two, it's not Microsoft. So there's that.
Guardians...I need your help. Am I being ridiculous? Should I let my anger over this stupid warranty issue go and just carry on? How much is a Destiny legacy worth? Is Destiny that much better on PS4? Should I just swallow hard and run for blue?
Any advice / thoughts / and such are appreciated. This is really difficult for me. It's not an easy choice.
Thanks for your time.
EDIT: THANK YOU Guardians, for all the advice. People say that the Destiny community is cancerous, but in my mind this conversation has proven otherwise. I think I'm going to stay on XBL and maybe buy a PS4 to try it out concurrently. If I don't think it's worth the switch, I can always sell it and not be out a lot.
Again...thank you for all the advice, practicality, and sense here. I really appreciate it! See you in the Tower! Well, some of you haha!

Save your money and keep all the time spent in destiny and just get yourself and new xbone controller. It will be a lot less expensive obviously. 90 days is too short of a warranty period for a controller yes I agree but it seems silly to jump to another system over this. I'm well over 6 months with my ps4 and if my controller broke today I would just get a new one.

When my ps4 controller broke I simply filled a form out online and sent it away and i had a replacement in 2 days, I was surprised how easy it was.

1 ReplyI recently migrated from Xbox One to PS4, started Destiny fresh, and it's actually a pretty good experience. I'm doing a lot of quests I forgot existed, so it actually feels kinda fresh. Plus, I don't have year 1 collections wasting space in my vault. The only thing I'm missing out on is fireteaming and Racer's Scarf.

If you need help leveling on PS4, feel free to add me @Xenn2423.

2 RepliesEdited by AssistingBard88: 7/31/2016 7:08:36 PMThe controller issue is terrible... Worst thing is that if you were a youtuber of some form of digital stature they would send you a new one for free haha... Should contact them and try and blag them to get a new controller... As for the xbone/ps4, im on xbox and wont move to ps4 but thats only because i have friends on the xbox so it really what you prefer. Starting again would be good, but if you have friends on the other console is it really worth moving over... Especially over a controller. But either way im sure you will still enjoy the console EDIT: if you have the money for another console running concurrently.. Why are you bothered about a controller and a warranty... Just buy a new one :/

I have both and theyre similar but ps4 is better overall. I sold the xbox one and kept the ps4
-
That won't help you. I'm pretty sure Playstation controllers have the same warranty. If it breaks you'll be in the same boat. Same bad taste in your mouth.
-
2 RepliesI would say stay on xbox, and buy a less expensive controller.

1 ReplyAaaaaand we care because ..........?

1 ReplyEdited by RogueMewl: 7/31/2016 6:13:25 PMPurchases at JCPennys have a 90 day warrenty. kind of dumb that a controller has a 90 day warrenty. sounds rigged.

2 RepliesHold up... You want to basicslly get rid of a console that you have put in easily well over $1,000 into (including games, gold etc) for a single controller? Man, just get yourself a regular Xbox one controller, and keep playing. A "bad taste in your mouth" over a single controller (no matter how good it is) shouldn't make you want to switch consoles over entirely. But hey, you do you. From what I know (as an Xbox player) PSN is a better overall console, but obviously the fan base is Microsoft. Most of your friends have an Xbox because of this, if you switch, you might not play with them as much as you usually do, just keep that in mind for whatever you do

How i see it is, Buying a new controller is definitely cheaper then buying an entire new system and game.

2 RepliesMy daughter's kid brother, (not my son-Idve taken it out of his allowance) dropped my elite and broke the left bumper spring. The bumpers are a weak link in the units. BUT...I had purchased EBGames (like GameStop) extended warranty. They replaced it right on the store with a new one and I bought an additional warranty for $17.50 for this one for another year. That's the first warranty I've purchased on any MicroSoft product...glad I did...now I know I can cry on it when I never get to the lighthouse and I can get it replaced for corrosion too..lol

3 RepliesIt seems like you have a very long history with Xbox. It also seems like you have enjoyed playing on Xbox. Are you going to let one thing make you rage quit your system? Nothing is perfect and crap happens. Mark it off as a bad luck, purchase a new controller and move on. I'm sure a new controller is a whole lot cheaper than buying ps4 and another Destiny game.

I love my PS4 but damn the controller is a piece of shit
-
4 RepliesJust an FYI, PS4 controllers are not much better. I have had to replace 5 so far, because the L3 (sprint) becomes unresponsive after a few months of play.

4 RepliesEdited by Onxide: 7/31/2016 4:13:40 PMI'm a Guardian. I'm capable of policing an entire solar system m8. I could bounce your race back to the stone age if I felt like it. Don't tempt me...

2 RepliesTake a look at the assortment of games available on each console and those coming up. That might help you decide on future use. Will there be VR? When? Ms might have left you with a 90 day warranty but it was on you to understand that when u bought the controller...there likely would have been after market warranty available yes? Im not a fan of MS, especially when they nuked the family live gold plans and installed fully individual ones. PS has a great deal for a main and sub accounts at what..$50? Perhaps that will change as well. Im sure Sony has their warts as well. It is a lot of fun playing this game and to the credit of many commenters, its fun to build new characters unless you are pressed for time by life (job, family, etc.) and dont want to regrind. Id say, stay practical and buy a replacement controller....and read the paperwork to understand the warranty and its limits. If you go high end, look at aftermarket warranty options. Ultimately, its a very personal decision.

1 ReplyMy elite controller broke a week past the 90 day warranty. The left control stick kept moving up when idle. Microsoft said they couldn't help and there is no way to get an extended warranty on it. I went in to my local GameStop to bite the bullet and buy another one. They had me come back with the broken one and let me trade it in for a new one. Not saying that would be the situation every time, but it worked for me.
-
1 ReplyCheck what credit card you bought it on. Most of them have extended warranty protection. You can't be upset that you didn't read the warranty until after it expired.

1 ReplyEdited by Wicked: 7/31/2016 3:56:22 AMThink of it like this.. Your Destiny Legacy is more than just the sum of your accomplishments. It's the time spent, relationships formed, memories made, etc. It's definitely shitty the way Microsoft handled your dilemma and the way they go about their warranties. I'd suggest a Scuf. I've had several. They're always excellent and they have lots of replaceable parts for things that break or wear out. Keep calm and carry on Guardian.

2 RepliesGet a PS4 Don't buy destiny Simple

1 ReplyWhy are you pulling a KD? In all seriousness, are you actually for real? Seems like you want attention to me.
-
1 ReplyPlay destiny on xb1 until Destiny 2. Then switch over

2 RepliesI play on ps4 and I'm on my third controller because of broken triggers. First one the spring broke, I bought springs and trigger replacement and it was fine, but I installed the spring wrong and bent it by accident but couldn't fix bc I accidentally stripped a screw. Second one the trigger itself broke (the place where it attaches to controller, the hinge) and I replaced the trigger bit didn't put a new spring in bc I felt like the spring was just another way for it to break. Bought a new controller bc #2 broke again and it's been fine so far. All controllers have their problems.

2 RepliesI say stay with Xbox. Here is my opinion as a retail manager. Every company has something you will have thought differently about that factually doesn't make sense. You are correct the warranty is silly and frustrating with the amount spent. But I guarantee you playstation it's self has some policy that doesn't make sense either and they will stick to it. Now wether or not that policy will affect you becomes a whole other question. Then there is your friends and progress. When I upgraded from 360 to 1, I contemplated switching back to playstation as I had more friends playing Destiny on playstation than Xbox. But I stuck with Xbox because of all my progress. I wish you the best of luck in your decision as I know it's tough.
