As one of the old ones let me tell you a story of this glorious weapon.
Very few guardians had an opportunity to wield this godly weapon in it's full glory as it once was.
I was fortunate enough to have survived the initial few weeks of hard raid encounters with Atheon where many of our guardian brothers and sisters fell and came out with a weapon built from the bones and soul of fallen Vex and Atheon's balls.
What a weapon it was. It was the life destroyer, it would vanish anything before it, a guardian or the worst of minions of darkness, it didn't matter. It was a 300 damage weapon but nobody was fooled, it WAS an annihilator of life.
I was one of the few that wielded this weapon at it's original glory in Crucible too. It was in Crucible where you would appreciate its power and reward for completing the hardest activity in the game
Mythoclast was so powerful that guardians would leave the Crucible arenas the moment they heard that unmistakable sound of impeding death.
Make no mistake, this power was well deserved. Remember that at the time, beating Atheon was very hard in Vault of Glass. We played with level 29 characters in a 30 raid and endured Atheon and raid encounter for hours.
Unfortunately the gods from above heard the prayers of the weakest of guardians and took a large chunk of it's glorious power down 34% making it nothing more but an ornament on our backs and simply a visual reminder of the good old times.
Still being 300 damage , and shortly after the initial intervention , gods have realized their mistake and tried to give our beloved Mythoclast a boost in order to regain it's glory. It felt better but still remained a gun not worthy of it's former status thus the old Mythoclast became a myth, a legend, something very few guardians managed to experience.
Right before the arrival of Eris to the last city and the events of Crota, gods have decided to give guardians who owned Mythoclast an advantage in the upcoming fight with Crota and his minions and thus they raised Mythoclast to 323 damage so we could fight them easier since all the other weapons at that point we had were 300, while giving some of it's original glory in Crucible.
It is still a mere fraction of the beastly weapon it once was but a step closer to what it deserves to be.
Because it comes from a time when all weapons were maxed at 300, and you felt special that your prize was 23 higher than all other weapons.
Then Dark Below came along and left VOG weapons under max attack, and then the fusion rifle nerf.
But it's still a monster, and is upgradable to 365 after HOW drops.
Why does 4th Horseman start at 286 attack and not 302? It's even a DLC exclusive item.....
Also, why the Fk does 4th Horseman not have an exotic perk? It has "return to sender" LOL
