A New Regime Chapter 07, Part 1

This is the first part of Chapter 7. However, you'll be seeing it as two separate parts, because I couldn't fit it as a single post. I won't be posting the rest for a while though, so I hope this sates you. As always, bump of you liked it, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Finally, if you are new to this series, the link to my Chapter Index will be posted before the story starts. Enjoy! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/116093772/0/0 The two Guardians sped through the rocky plains of Venus, their Sparrows' thrusters beginning to smoke from the strain the two were putting on them as they kept the vehicles moving at maximum speed. Behind them, they could hear the faint whine of another Sparrow not to far from them. Jadis was flitting her head from side to side, like an owl trying to listen to the faint heartbeat of a mouse hiding in a field of tall grass. Just up ahead, she spotted a turn off that would lead the two straight back to the ship. "We need to go this way. This path will get us back to my ship." As she edged her Sparrow to the side, the Warlock beside her roughly grabbed the back of her neck. With a burst of speed from his Sparrow, he forced her to pull her own back onto the main path. "What the hell you floof!? We need to go-" "If whoever the hell is chasing us tracked us this far, than it's obvious he's found the ship. We can't leave the planet using it any longer. I've got a better idea." "Well what is it?" "I'll keep it a surprise for now." Suddenly, shots rang out from behind them, and bullets whizzed past them through the wind. Their assailant--a Hunter--had been able to move into proper shooting range, and was attempting to knock them off their Sparrows. The two gunned their vehicles, swerving in wild patterns in order to avoid the attack. The three kept up their game of cat and mouse as they sped into the ruined buildings of the Academy. Tempest swerved abruptly to the side and leaped from the seat of his Sparrow, using his forward momentum to glide over and take cover behind the trunk of a thick tree. Truth spun 180 degrees on her ride, pulling a curved, golden rifle from her back. She fired half a clip of solar energy at the approaching Sparrow. He jumped up just as the rounds splashed against the Sparrow's front, causing it to erupt in a cloud of fire. Avoiding the explosion, the Hunter landed to the ground safely on his feet. "WOOO!!!" cheered Yamishtin."What a ride!! You guys sure are worth all of the mulla I'm gonna be bringing in once I capture you." Truth said nothing, keeping her gun leveled at the Exo. Tempest came out from behind his makeshift cover warily, clutching the Thorn in his right hand, his other gripped tightly into a fist, awash in Void light. The Exo Hunter inspected his adversaries' weapons. "You must be the Warlock," as he gestured at him. He then moved toward Jadis, and whistled. "Hawkmoon AND the Mythoclast? DAYUM girl, who did you have kill to get your hands on those?" She merely narrowed her glance, keeping her aim steady on the Hunter's chest. Everything was quiet for only a few moments, before the hyperactive Hunter spoke again. "Soooo, are we gonna fight or wh-" Yamishtin was cut off by a sudden crackle of electricity, as dark, roiling clouds appeared above the Guardians' heads. Jadis craned her neck to get a better view, as the clouds grew larger and wider. That was all Yamishtin needed to draw his sniper rifle, the Devil's Corkscrew, from his back, and take aim at the other Hunter. In a flash of bright light, Tempest appeared in front of him. He clotheslined the Exo, and Blinked away in a puff of blue vapor, leaving Jadis to suffer alone at the hands of the Vex.
