Survival Mode

I was soloing the nightfall today and had a good idea I thought I should share with the 7th Column, as well as any Bungie Officials who might venture onto this thread. Here it is: Survival Mode - survival-style gameplay, with a twist... - playable at all locations currently in Destiny - nonstop waves of the Darkness' minions streaming out of their holes - occasional optional objectives that, despite punishing toughness, leave the player feeling appropriately rewarded. - special Legendary (possibly Exotic) grade Horde Mode gear - leaderboards that reward the best survivors with truly unique loot These were the basics of what I had in mind, though the meat of this thread is my vision of how it COULD work. As you might infer by the word "survival", the objective of this mode is to--mainly--stay alive against ever increasing odds. Sort of like a patrol, except you have only one life, and your enemies get tougher and more numerous as the fight progresses. However, enemies (save perhaps Thralls) would not spawn in swarms of cheesy baddies that are hard-wired to track you and your every move. This would almost certainly drive players nuts and force them into mechanized, cyclic routines of rounding up enemies and unloading everything on them. So rather than spawning large groups of baddies, perhaps an objective could be introduced to 1)keep score and 2)encourage a strategic approach to the game. A great example would be Venus, the main location of Vex-fighting mayhem. Players engaging in survival mode would be tasked with capturing sync plates or raising a spire in order to earn the points to make a high-score. Of course, the resistance would become increasingly tough, and the objectives would move all around the maps. Every so often, a special event would come around. The player would have the option of participating, and it would be enticing to do so. These special events would only occur after surpassing a certain point level. Special events would not be easy. A typical event might be something like: destroy the Fallen Walker(not the patrol type, but the type we saw in The Devil's Lair), or Defend the Confluxes. While these activities would be trying even for the most hardcore players, they would reward you well with legendary survival mode gear. This would ensure that the player feels the same satisfaction that they do when loot is dropped after an encounter in the Vault of Glass. Survival mode would challenge players to take big risks for even bigger rewards. Finally, Survival Mode would have a well-integrated leaderboard, offering rewards for surpassing the skills (and scores) of others. For example, someone who reached the top 2000 or some rank like that for the most points on Cosmodrome Survival would get survival-mode class item, or maybe a weapon given only to those who have hit above a certain score. We want to have to work to get exotic gear. They should be rewarded for specific tasks. This would be one of them. Also, this mode could open up some huge opportunities to add value to Glimmer (this applies to any other mode of Destiny as well): buy-in tournaments. Have somebody in the Tower sell tournament-tickets(for glimmer or materials) for people who want to outdo their friends and the rest of the community at any mode. Add some way for us to take BIGGER risks for BIGGER rewards. After all, that's what makes it fun. At the end of the day, I'll still play Destiny no matter what, but THIS is something I would pay extra for. I hope you all got some good ideas from this post. If you did, tell me what you think about it in the comments. If you want to let Bungie see this post, like it, comment it, and bump it up. Per audacia ad astra, my friends. ~Area51guy
