I get you .... But bear with me. Imagine I transport back to a big city in the 1920's or 1930's. I meet you and tell you I'm from the future. I show you colour photos, videos, google, mobile phones, sat nav, photocopiers/scanners. I explain how we can cure some cancer. Perform advanced heart and brain surgery. Fly across the Atlantic in hours, visit the moon, send spacecraft to other planets and even out of the solar system. Instantly heat food in seconds .... Etc etc. and then you turn to me and say. Wow the future sounds incredible. How do you travel to work? Flyin saucer? Teleport? And I say I drive in a car. You wouldn't be very impressed. In the golden age just because we had tech so advanced it seemed like magic. It doesn't mean we didn't still drive around in cars. They are more cost effective and use less resources than spacecraft! Im not saying they ran on petrol/gas. But our society is heavily based around personal ground transport ..... In an apocalypse most people Probly didn't have a jump ship on the drive way. Hence why they were trying to get to the cosmodrome ..... :)
