I prefer not to have an online (required) connection to play my games. What if some players don't have good internet or none at all. So would you like to have offline mode in destiny?
-
Its never gonna happen though :/
-
Offline mode would defeat the purpose of the game
-
I wouldn't be against it, but I'm not entirely sure how well it would work out.
-
I suppose it would be alright. It would have to have a few caveats, like no experience gain, no achievements, stuff like that. But otherwise, ja, it would be fine.
-
I don't see anything wrong with an offline mode as long as progress doesn't carry over
-
Question! How then would you be assigned loot? Its random what enemies drop, and I really do mean random. I have killed the same set of mobs atleast 50 odd times, only to have a couple of non encrypted gear and 1 bit of encrypted as well as different ammo drops. Without the server doing all that loot RNG jazz. How would you define loot? Have the full loot tables saved locally?

12 RepliesEdited by Pheint3d: 5/10/2014 8:01:48 AMHere's my stab at it,.... Destiny is online only right?.... Absolutely no info about split screen couch co op has come out Right? So let's say.,...bungie doesn't really think spit screen will work...at least for the always online part.... So here's a solution....why not make the off line mode a mode for couch co op? Split screen, 4 way, and system link for 2-8 players? It's a lot of info smashed on 4 small split Windows, that idea of the split limit is up to debate. Offline characters are restricted to offline only, and are 3 separate character slots per account and guest account to the 3 online characters. Friends can download their offline character online on a different console to play on a friend's console. So offline characters are still saved in the server for this kind of access. I get its possible the server will one day be taken down, But that's a different ordeal in itself. Thoughts? ::Also gonna post this in the split screen thread::

I think we should be able to play offline. Sometimes my Internet will be slow for 3 to 4 weeks and I get terrible lag on any multiplayer game.
-
Sounds like its too late for the game itself. Nevertheless at this junction I'd love a personal space we could work on while offline. I've encountered two games that I enjoy working on projects outside the main theme which is... Reach and Forge World. Warframe and the Clan Dojo. There's just something fun about building structures.

7 RepliesThis game is not meant to be played solo.
-
I don't think Bungie could offer the entire game in offline mode, of course. But some solo parts would work very well for offline gaming. I take my console in our RV when we are on the road and there are plenty of times when there is no internet connection. There are precious few games that offer offline gaming and they are prized beyond measure on those trips!! :)

4 RepliesDude... its awesome running into other guardians while out in the wild. Makes the game feel alive.

Online only games aren't really structured for offline mode, so there is a risk that you can wish as much as you want, but Bungie could never deliver.
-
I would indeed like to have the option, but I don't see myself ever using it.
-
No I like the ideas of running into public events during campaign
-
4 RepliesNo it doesn't need to be offline. The reason for online is to be able to have random instances happen. Where you can be walking along doing one thing and then a drop ship just comes out of no where and a battle goes down with other guardians coming to your aid to take down a devil walker. They can also have at certain times a certain enemy type appear in the game. Bungie can't do that without an online always connection
-
I was a little upset when I first heard that Destiny was online only cuz I don't have a way to play it till I get internet but I refuse to miss out on this game but most of the features in this game u would get a better experience online anyway...about the only thing u could do offline would be maybe the MP....not much of a strike or raid with just a couple people to play with offline
-
8 RepliesNope. I like the way Bungie is going with this, and I can see many more games in the future going down the same route. If I want a single player experience, I'm going to play a single player game. It would be like asking for an offline version of WoW, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fun, nor would it work the way it was designed to. I'm good with the always online for Destiny.

How can the world be living without a connection to the internet?

Started a new topic: Destiny won't have an offline mode(21 Replies))
-
I don't mind online-only. My country has fast internet. And a stable connection. Ofcourse you have a server shutdown from time to time. But in no way do I feel that Destiny's online mode is gonna backfire.
-
2 RepliesI just don't like online requirements because they brick the game if your internet cuts out. The first time I ever encountered this was in Halo 4, when I thought to myself "My Internet is down, so I'll just play Spartan Ops until it comes back". Nope, couldn't do it. Internet connection shouldn't be a requirement, it should be a feature, like the ability to save your game.
-
1 ReplyYour saves are stored server-side to prevent duping and exploits, deal with it.
-
Nope. Online is where it's at. AI makes you feel so alone.
