There are fundamental human traits and desires. Not wanting to perpetuate life or consciousness is like not having a left arm; it's a disability and an unhealthy deviation from form that few people have. The real issue is the rejection of empirical data and the reliance on gut-feeling in almost all matters. This leads to the development of harsh, unmitigated, and idiosyncratic metaphysical models, which in turn lead people to unjustly believe the are perpetuating consciousness when they in fact are not, which finally results in people arbitrarily dividing themselves into cultural or ideological factions. A certain degree of division is inevitable, and this is good because many theories have similar amounts of evidence and arguments going for them, but to say that there is no fundamental human similarity is ridiculous.
