I kind of liked the new series. Clara is an interesting companion so far in my opinion.
Also, did anyone understand the end of the finale?
[spoiler]The part where The Doctor and Clara jump inside The Doctor's timeline.
Has The Doctor chosen not to have a name to distance himself from an 'evil' regeneration?[/spoiler]

The doctor regeneration that is john hurt is most likely an incarnation between the 8th and 9th doctor(time war era). It explains why the doctor turned his back on him and no longer refers to him as the doctor, time lords choose their own names and the very fact he didn't refer to the new one as the doctor shows that he did something extreme. Such as destroying both the time lords and the daleks together in the time war.
