Honestly I'm liking the series less and less. Matt Smith is a good doctor and plays the role very well but the writing is so mediocre, it's become too much of a childrens program.
Dr who is supposed to be scary, have children hiding behind the sofa when the daleks or cybermen walk onscreen, instead it's been severely dumbed down in order to fulfill the modern tv show agenda of getting people to just stare at the screen the whole time.
I really hope they come up with a good explanation for clara to finish this season or perhaps the next one, because if they don't I might actually be done with the series, god forbid.
Dr who is supposed to be scary, have children hiding behind the sofa when the daleks or cybermen walk onscreen,
i don't know about you, but out of the many Doctor Who's i watched as a child, i only found 2 of them scary; The Robots of Death and The Unquiet Dead. Doctor Who is not 'supposed' to be scary at all; it is not a children's horror series. some episodes are intend to scare, but it is not what the show is 'supposed' to be like. and in fact, i found Hide rather scary tbh. that white shape in the photos? i actually find that image really scary.
instead it's been severely dumbed down in order to fulfill the modern tv show agenda of getting people to just stare at the screen the whole time.
this is true of TV in general; not that Doctor Who has ever been particularly complicated though, it is a children's show.

Edited by Circadian Wolf: 5/13/2013 11:25:13 AMMaybe calling it more of a childrens program is the wrong word, it's become a more friendly program. Think about Rise of the Cybermen vs the Silver Ressurection or dalek vs that one set in WWII (I forget it's name). There was so much death and danger, everything was so much darker and more intense. You could never really be sure who was going to survive besides the doctor and possibly his companions. Dare I even mention blink vs the third episode matt smith was in with the angels.

I disagree, I think that Matt Smith's acting is -blam!-ing godawful David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston are the best.

Don't get confused between acting and how the character acts, it's not his fault if the scriptwriters do a bad job writing the character.

I agree, it's awful He's like a dummed down version of David Tennant's character rather than being completely and utterly different like how David Tennant was different from Christopher Eccleston.
