My theory is that it's just a word. Not EVERYTHING has to have some completely game-changing secret behind it.
I'm not trying to single you out or anything, but people seem to be making every single detail into something it's not.

I think Bungie's using it too specifically for it to just be a word, IMO.

To me, the word vanguard seems to be used interchangeably with Guardian, and that [i]the [/i]Vanguard is the collective group of Guardians. The Guardians are the definition of a vanguard, after all.

Still, even though Bungie is an incredibly clever group of people, I doubt they have some incredibly awesome, encrypted idea behind everything word they say. I personally think the word vanguard is used interchangeably with Guardian, and that [i]the[/i] Vanguard is the collective group of Guardians exploring the remnants of Humanity; nothing more.
