My theory is that it's just a word. Not EVERYTHING has to have some completely game-changing secret behind it. I'm not trying to single you out or anything, but people seem to be making every single detail into something it's not.

I think Bungie's using it too specifically for it to just be a word, IMO.

The deliberate use of the word definitely leans towards The Vanguard being a specific thing, however, I don't think it's a special rank, exclusive class, or some form of a cryptic message Bungie is trying to send to the community. To me, the word vanguard seems to be used interchangeably with Guardian, and that the Vanguard is the collective group of Guardians. The Guardians are the definition of a vanguard, after all.

If this was some average game developer, I might agree with you, but Bungie is a pretty clever guy so you can never be too sure, and I'd rather be first with an idea than last.

Your reasoning is completely there. It's a theory that makes sense, and if it's correct you'll most likely get compensated for it. Still, even though Bungie is an incredibly clever group of people, I doubt they have some incredibly awesome, encrypted idea behind everything word they say. I personally think the word vanguard is used interchangeably with Guardian, and that the Vanguard is the collective group of Guardians exploring the remnants of Humanity; nothing more.

  •
I doubt they have some incredibly awesome, encrypted idea behind every word they say.
True, Greg Kirkpatrick isn't at Bungie anymore. :)
