I have no DLCs, because of the region lock that I am having trouble avoiding. Because of that, I'm forced to play on either one of the two dedicated playlists that are hardly populated and literally no one is playing the ranked section in them.
While these two playlists are remarkably low in population, the other P2P playlists ( TDM to be exact ) are filled with players.
Why would players do such a thing? Why don't they bother with dedicated servers and prefer to play with cocky Mexicans that think that they are good when they pull host?

1 ReplyEdited by burritosenior: 2/14/2013 3:38:58 PMDedicated Servers are not good. First of all, they are really expensive to have and maintain. Secondly, they are the exact same thing as P2P except you get a better connection based on who is physically closer to the servers rather than who has a better connection to the host. It's not worth it.

With the right netcode and host selection algorithms, P2P is significantly better than "Server" based systems. Why? Because you have hundreds of thousands of servers to chose from instead of 1 or 2 that are based in your country. Or none if the company doesn't even care about your country.

What's the point in dedicated servers if they don't even work half the time? Plus Gears 3 caters to Mexicans so that's pretty much all you'll find in that game now. That's what Epic gets for dumbing down the game as much as they did though so I don't feel sorry for them.

2 Repliesbecause pay to play is better than a cash shop

Because, IIRC, to get dedicated servers, you have to play ranked. No drop in, drop out so that means longer search times for the game to find a match. And if you quit early you get penalized for it.

Probably because it is almost like dedicated servers aren't even there. There is very little difference between dedicted servers and P2P.

1 ReplyBecause overall the P2P system (where the host could be anywhere, and thus is more likely to be close to other players) is better for most people than dedicated servers (where the host will always be in a predetermined location, less likely to be close to all players, and thus more susceptible to lag).

1 ReplyI would say it depends on the playlists, whats the game mode?

People are dumb and don't understand how to make efficient use of resources.
