So...the Pope quit.
His resignation is official at the end of the month. The reason they gave was advanced age. Every one of the last ones died on the job.
So, it needs to be asked: what's the scandal?

The interviews on TV I saw today were pretty funny, like when the news anchor asked this Catholic woman in an interview how the vatican will make sure they pick the right man for the job and she just answered with "Well it's God that decides" and the anchor just looked at her awkwardly for a moment and moved on to the next person.

Good for him. If he feels he is unable to carry out his duties effectively then there's no shame in resigning.

If you look at the history of what this Pope has said, it's not all that surprising. He frequently asked Pope John Paul II to be released from his service in Rome so he could retire and live out his days in Germany. He asked not to be chosen as Pope frequently during the conclaves, and then about a year and half ago sets up the idea for resignation due to failing health. All other bishops are allowed to retire/resign, so why not the Bishop of Rome? Really, if any Pope was going to resign, it might as well have been the guy who's been foreshadowing it since before he was elected.
