Lives are taken away with all the ridiculous modifiers until you have none and then everyone quits. You waste 20 minutes most times with lfg matchmade teams with no clear. It makes me want to log off versus playing matchmade activities or just do solo ops to complete the daily challenges. This type of content with ridiculous timers, modifiers, limited revives encourages people to be toxic and elitist towards players they play with instead of encouraging lfg teams (which can push casual and new players from your game). Not everything in the portal needs to be hardcore.
In Solo ops, I have to max out all modifiers just to get a B now. So you make it almost impossible to even get a B grade without be extremely sweaty. If I play on lower difficulties, I am unable to get a B with all modifiers because I'm too high of a level. I'm always forced to play the game and use the gear how you want me to, not how I want to just to get progress from the portal.
In order to progress challenges and get gear, I must play Ultimate with max modifiers, timers, and etc. on 24/7. I'm tired of being forced to progress by always just playing in sweat mode for everything. Sometimes I want to get rewarded by playing regular strikes like the game used to have. I think many players have the same sentiment and it could be a reason why so many left or are leaving.
I really think you could bring new players in by eliminating limited revives, timers, and ridiculous modifiers from matchmade activities. Make it to where people can choose those options in private settings, not force them on every piece of pve content in the portal at higher difficulties. Give casual places a reason to come in.

I forgot what I Q up for a few days ago. But I joined, and there was 1 revive left. I ended up dying as soon as I spawned because of the position they put me in and couldn't do much, really. So, one of the other players decided to stop what they were doing just to tbag me, and ended up costing them the last boss, lol. I've hated revives since early d2, I voiced my opinion like the rest, and bungie still dont seem to want to listen. Revives should be something players can select to increase their rewards or challenge. At the moment, no matter where you turn, everything is a sweat fest. It's either limited revive tokens or super tacky enemies, unfair, and b.s. position like last boss of the new exotic misaion. That setup is just pure b.s. Now, before I get skill issue or get good replies, I've done the thing on legend, got everything for it for this week. But for the average Joe, I can see why this is pure b.s
