Anyone here seen Batman: The Animated Series?

Good evening everybody, this is Aifos coming to you alive from Gotham! This is an awful place, and I want to get out of here as fast as possible! All the more reason for you to answer my question quickly! So, I'm currently debating on watching Batman: The Animated Series, and the associated shows, such as Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Batman Beyond. From what I've heard, this is the best Batman, and hearing someone describe why this Batman is the best has sold me on the show, and made me decide to watch it. However, from what I understand, there's a movie tie in with this show (meaning same Batman and all that) called Mask of the Phantasm, which doesn't show up on iTunes by just looking up "Batman: The Animated Series". So, I have a couple questions: 1. How many movies are tied in with this series--meaning the same Batman--and around what time would it be best to watch them (for example, "Watch Mask of the Phantasm after episode 40" or something)? 2. How many other series are connected to this one? I know Batman Beyond and Justice League, obviously, but any others? 3. What would be the best order to watch these series? I know Batman and Superman should be watched before Justice League, and from what I understand the final episode of Justice League Unlimited is actually the final episode for Batman Beyond, so probably that one at some point before them, too? Also, feel free to give me your opinions on the show, but obviously no spoilers. Tl;dr? Here's my point! I'm thinking about watching Batman: The Animated Series. I have questions about the show. Look at the questions above. But that's all for now folks! Jambuhbye!

It's a landmark series. The Dark Deco look of the series, especially the first two or three seasons when black paper was used, were like nothing else on air at the time Given how soild the animated offerings for DC titles have been I've the years, it's astounding, outside of Keaton era Batman and Nolan Batman, how lackluster the live action offerings have been.

These are like long form episodes and the series is mostly episodic with some small progression (I don’t remember many big story arcs.) I would watch BTAS, then the adventures with Robin because they actually do have the different robins and that development (not Jason or Damien), if you want maybe watch Superman’s series before then watching “& Superman”, that led to some artstyle changes for BTAS I think. Static Shock is connected to it. Dunno where in the timeline though. More on the JL side of things I think. then JL and JLU, though I never really saw them in the same universe cause I watched JL/U first and the scale is just different. (Also that art style change, really separated it for me. it’s just weird thinking of the two shows as the same universe.)
Never really liked JLU because it just got so big and so many side heroes they don’t touch upon. *I’m just not into small teams turning into big organizations. Also the intro sucks. JL intro> Still an awesome show though.
I also see Beyond as a separate/alternate universes. Mostly cause of the Joker Returns movie. And the fact I never watched Beyond. Saw the first few episodes of JL recently (sis was rewatching on Netflix.) and just got hit with heavy nostalgia. That space trial scene is like some sorta core memory for some reason. Essentially I just separate the shows into 3 chunks. -BTAS (including the Superman show and crossover show) (feels like its own thing) -JL/U (you don’t need to watch BTAS to understand.) -Beyond (you prolly need to see the other two to understand whats in this timeline.)
I wrote and edited this back n forth while doing something else so I have no idea if it’s coherent.
I’m not a big Batman fan really, but I had a Batman bedspread when I was young based off of this one, so I must have liked it a lot. From what I remember it was a lot less serial in form (as in, it didn’t have much of a running plot beyond a few multi-part stories) compared to other shows at the time like Spider-Man, so it might not matter too much what order you watch other things. Marvel seemed to be more into that, with crossovers between Spider-Man, Hulk (and She-Hulk) and the X-Men series a few times iirc. I never watched any of the other DC shows or films so I have no idea about those. I did catch a few episodes of Batman Beyond though and I enjoyed it. I distinctly remember quite liking ‘The Batman’ series as well which came out quite a long time later, around 2007 or 8 I think. I assume you’ve heard of it and discounted it but thought I’d mention it just in case. Edit: okay according to Wikipedia The Batman started in 2004 so my internal clock must be way off lmao

This Batman? I only know Mask of the Phantasm and Sub Zero. My timeline knowledge isn't great. But like Saturday mornings in the day, this is where it was at. Manbat (not batman, the villain) scared the piss outta me when I was a kiddo. I think Mask is technically the origin story of this DCAU Batman. Do with that what you will. Prequel, flashback... It released between season 1 and 2 when the show was still on. Batman and Mister Freeze: Sub Zero, there's episodes here but I only know Heart of Ice (S1episode???) and Deep Freeze (S2 episode???). No idea how the film fits.

            • One of my favorite episodes is 'Almost Got 'Im' and 'Mask of the Phantasm' is awesome. I don't know the answers to your questions off the top of my head but if you have the streaming service 'tubi,' you can find at least half a dozen animated Batman movies there (unless they removed them since the last time I checked).
