Ever since Season of the Drifter elaborated on just what the Nine were I’ve come to believe that the theories about what the Nine are are just historical examples of them ensuring the number Nine appeared as a primitive attempt to communicate.
They had 9 ghosts explore the unknown, stole 9 members of the Exodus Green from the depths of the singularity, etc.

I'm sure "the nine" is a lot easier and faster to say than any scientific term we could come up. I mean, I'm also glad they gave the traveler that name, rather than a word that can cause a brain aneurysm.

Well it’s a very basic descriptor in both cases. The Nine are the nine because there are nine of them. The Traveler is the Traveler because it travels.

Yeah, but now give them proper scientific names, and bet we would be glad we got the easier answers. "In layman's terms please" Or... "If any word you use sounds like I'm speaking 8 languages at once, we ain't gonna understand each other"
