Welp, there goes all buildcrafting enjoyability

Pretty much just the title. Witch queen’s mod system was incredibly good and solid and it gave you tons of possible builds to make doing whatever you wanted with whatever weapon you wanted. The only downside was that it had nothing for kinetic weapons which it should have been given. Lightfall mod system is not only painful but now pretty much everything has been nerfed into the ground removing any creativity. Now there will literally be maybe 1 build per subclass if that, which you will have to use. I don’t know who on the development team looked at the all time low player numbers and went “yes let’s nerf anything and destroy a major feature of our game more, that’ll bring them back” like your player count is now getting close to what destiny 1 has right now, in fact destiny 1’s player count is rising even though you for some reasons omitted it from the Black Friday sale. That should tell you that you are doing something terribly wrong. A game from 10 years ago that hasn’t been updated for 7 years is starting to catch up to your main supported game…

  • Old mod system is outdated and will be replaced with new mods focused on Orbs of Light and Charged with Light. Orbs of Light and Charged with Light is too strong, we will replace these with new mods called Wells of Power. Orbs of Light are now Orbs of Power and pair with Wells of Power. Wells of Power were too strong, we are replacing them with mods focused on Armor Charge that stack with Orbs of Power. Armor Charges and Orbs of Power are too strong. -Bungie.

    • I'm so glad I never got into buildcrafting anyway. I mean, not past a single 100 set. Bungie can't be trusted to respect our investments, so I never gave them the time.

I am not a fan of the current design that funnels you into one or two elements with complete builds or you are effectively gimping yourself and everything seems to be tedious bullet sponges i've got my playstyle and i've got no desire to change it just give me content instead of some system to make me change my entire playstyle every 4-5 months think they do it to increase grind cuz you can't just stick with your current loadout I play less when they are 'forcing' me into something. I just stick with my usual and if everything feels tedious I just play less.

        • Destiny 1 is still entirely intact. You could play from first light all the way through to the end of rise of iron. It has a ton more strikes, more PvP maps, and (imo) better raids. The patrol spaces are all the same, prison of elders is still there, it’s laughable how many steps backwards Bungie has taken since then. I guess that’s what happens when a bunch of greedy yuppies run a company.

          • Buildcrafting has been dead since Lightfall. Cutting out all the unique builds down to two PVE builds You're either going to go into surges or Ability regen. Wow such great creativity, now with these nerfs all we've got is surge builds.

They talk about build crafting but then do so many things to hinder it. Nerfs that overcompensate for an issue. This return to the “joy” of the random drop means you’re less likely to get the weapon roll you want to try things out for builds. Certain high end content difficulty existing in ways that more or less demand specific builds to survive. The return to the “joy” of the random drop and the “bring challenge back to Destiny” goals they set out to accomplish have just caused me to play less. It came at the cost of too much of the fun factor. I don’t think this trade as worth it. Lightfall was the first expansion that didn’t hold my interest until the following season, and Final Shape is the first expansion I’m not getting the deluxe for specifically because of how unrewarding dungeons are due to a complete lack of player agency to target(focusing) or earn(crafting) a desired weapon roll because no amount of time and effort in any dungeon means a thing for your odds. I just can’t pay for dungeons anymore. Why would I? I have never gotten a single dungeon weapon roll that I want from any dungeon, ever. They’re driving me away. Everyone in my clan/friends group is playing significantly less and no one wants to run dungeons after the first time anymore because of how unrewardingly disrespectful they are to player time and effort.

What makes things more BS is that looking at the artifacts WHY is it Artifacts have better perks then our exotic armor and it's becoming a major problem to the point that some our new and rework exotic are becoming horrible to the point they become worse not to even use in end game and barely for strikes It seems all the best perks for exotics going to the artifacts more then exotic armor

It is elitist to only go by the PC player count. That is not where the most people can come from. (The elitist thing was a joke). I just looked at the most trustworthy numbers source and the one the president uses to check on destiny so if he uses it you should too. This late in the season and people are already waking up. The presidential stat site PvE numbers look promising. It's literally only going to matter if people feel like they're getting something. And they're going to be wanting that rocket launcher. And maybe a cowboy hat or something like that where there's only really one way to give it to everyone who wants it and still ensure you don't see it too much. Destiny 1 was very good so that should be added to the destiny numbers. That's weird d1 which is probably closer to halo than this game in terms of abilities is having a population surge at the same time people talk about the lack of abilities. Pretty sure the PvE has been roughly that low before.

                  • If anything we need more mods maybe mods that help sprites on the field then just another item to run to grab Solar-scorch nearby enemies Ark - jolt nearby enemies Void - weaken nearby enemies Strand - unravel nearby enemies Stasis - slow nearby enemies Making it easier to go pick them up

Ok I agree with the main sentiment but I want to outline some benefits from the new mod system: 1. You don’t have to run a subclass for surges anymore. No more having to run stasis so your reeds regret hits harder. 2. Elemental loaders and scavengers feel infinitely better than picking a mod for a specific weapon. It rewards matching elements and I like that 3. Consolidating wellmaker mods into orbs means you don’t have to pick a certain subclass to get more out of specific buffs. Example: Solar subclasses can use reaping wellmaker without missing out on ability increases they otherwise would’ve gotten. 4. Classes with ranged melees have much more effective ability uptime due to the fact that melee induction and other abilities like that are a LOT stronger than they used to be The problem didn’t start in lightfall necessarily, it’s just that there are so few other mod options. They compressed all existing mods into consolidated ones for quality of life, leaving so many other things. Where are the fragments and new permanent mods? That’s the problem, along with the ability nerfs and the orb restriction. The problem is that they’re not adding more things and are instead nerfing the things that exist. The sandbox feels great when more varied tools are consistently being added in to introduce off meta builds. I think that whirling maelstrom is a perfect example of this. It’s not broken persay but it adds so much crowd control and synergizes well with not only weapon playstyles but grapple playstyles. Take a look at the success of wardens law, specifically because its a new archetype and you wonder why they don’t do this more.

                  • Warmind cell builds -> Charged with light builds -> Elemental well builds -> Armor charge builds Now imagine you found your favorite game where you can create many builds but after certain time allways comes in conclusion that most of them doesnt work the way they was created to work, it creates feeling of wasting lot of time in this unconsistent system where you love making many builds and enjoy playing them but any big changes feels like after reaching the top of the mountain you was pushed away to the bottom again and again and again, creates frustration and makes players burned out.

                  • They streamlined it to make it more casual friendly and removed build complexity. Good side: Easily to make builds -- Bad side: All build diversity was destroyed.

                        • Yeah the previous mod system was pretty good. I was just getting the hang of it when they took the mods out. Felt really bad for players who grounded for a crap load of em in raids.

                        • If you read different posts over the Internet like reddit etc, titans have been getting heavy nerfed since destiny 2 started but more so in the past 2 years. It's ridiculous. Why even be a titan anymore, they are a pale shadow of there former destiny 1 self and what they where suposed to be has been lost in translation.

                          • They say that players stay alive to easily, but then they’ll make raids like Root or Nightmares that arent even a challenge. Maybe make the game am harder so we can utilize our “OP” survivability??

                            • No mods are being removed. Just cooldown adjustment so the build remains the same as maybe even more important now. You just won’t get abilities back as quickly which I’m really ok with.

                            • First, I do like a lot of what you said. I would disagree with one point. The lower player count happens at the end of every season. In less than a week the player total will go back up, probably drastically. The last two or so months of a season is when player numbers start going down. Most people have finished the content they want to. Bungie has probably had a plan for changing build-crafting for a while now. This is not a change that they just randomly decided to do. They just happen to announce it at the end of the season. That way going into the new season, people know what to expect. They are kind of doomed whenever they announce a big change like this. End of season, it looks bad because player count is down. Early in the season, is bad because by the start of a new season, players probably won’t remember a change was talked about. I personally don’t agree with the change. It’s just that many of the changes and TWID/B are made and written a head of time. Personally I would love to see Charged of Light Mods, Elemental Well, and the old Orbs of Power be the build-crafting options. That system, IMO was more diverse and easier to work with than this one. Now they just add a cooldown to the Orbs. 🤔🤦‍♂️
