Before cbmm I’d been flawless 17 times in trials. I appreciate that’s not loads and I’m barely an average player but it’s -blam!- ridiculous how lopsided matches can be nowadays. I’ve been flawless once this season and it was shear damn luck that it put me against blueberries for 7 straight matches. Cbmm is so lazy and I actually despise bungie for their decade long incompetence.

  • Trials technically has always used CBMM its just before it also looked at the wins then found people woth roughly the same number of wins and then matched you with the ones with the best connection (if possible) . Now it uses FBMM (fireteam based match making) which prefers the fireteam size and thats its primary search, then after its found players of equal fireteam size (if possible) it matches the ones with the best connection (again if possible)

  • Yeah fair point man. Whilst that’s still a form of matchmaking, this current iteration ( certainly in my case anyway) seem to have a lot more mismatches games. So I seem to get a lot more 5-0 & 0-5 matches on a card than I ever used to and overall if feels like a worse experience than it has in the past. Thanks for the breakdown though man.

  • Personally i hate both iterations of trials due to them lacking in certain areas. I feel as though we should keep the idea of practice and contender pools (the pool system currently used) but make them more seperated (players will be pulled from both at the same time if required to fill a match which is what causes most balancing issues) Also a switch in the matchmaking to use FBMM crossed with passage based matchmaking (PBMM or card based matchmaking) as that would mean you match with/against people equally far in their passage as you are (meaning everyone is trying equally as hard as each other) while keeping solos against solos and trios against trios. Another valuable change would be for a 2v2 system to be implamented for duos so that a duo only goes against a duo (this solves the 2 stacking for easier games issue while not alienating people who only play trials with 1 friend or people who play the mode with their partner/spouse)

  • Yeah I know that, mate. But it used to be card based and I’m could be wrong here but I’m pretty sure Elo effected it a little. Also flawless pool definitely made it easy for average to low skill players to go flawless, imo

Yeah, you're right. I thought you were implying it was sbmm. My bad, yeah, it was card based and was easier. I'm not a fan of the way it is now. The sweats want to stomp so they made a way for the sweats to stomp again

  • [no drama bro, I was pretty vague about it. Totally agree. It just feels super chaotic with team balancing nowadays

I love cbmm it’s made trials on avg easier And trials has never been sbmm so I wouldn’t complain about cbmm if you wanna complain about a change that likely hurt you it was the removal of the flaw pool which was replaced with the practice pool and 2 mercies on a card

  • 17 is nothing to sneeze at. 👍🏻 And there’s nothing wrong with expecting balance in a game. Bungie stans have convinced themselves that it’s ok to settle for less
