Solo triumph requires a single full run, done from fresh to finish, without leaving/checkpointing/error coding/black screen->respawning.
Your run was resumed from a checkpoint.

I’m not talking about a flawless solo run; you should be able to respawn in a solo run. Where does it state that you can’t go to orbit?

Bungie rules are Bungie’s rules; they can say whatever they want on their TWAB. But how am I supposed to know that before starting the attempt if it’s not stated in the game? I should have just had the foresight to go look at old TWABs or guides?

It wasn't mentioned in a TWAB, the only time Bungie have commented on it was here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/262283445?sort=0&page=0 Unfortunately the only ways you'd have known about it prior to doing the run was someone telling you/you seeing it mentioned somewhere, or you running into the issue and then finding out afterwards. In this case you fall into the latter
