What news is this from? If it’s true, it’s just indicative of how any business is forced to operate in the world economy these days, [i]especially[/i] media like television and video games. Ever think that really good show went on for too long and got bad? Ever think that one game was great until they decided retcon a bunch of stuff for future content? They’re all focused on very long-term sustainability so that they can maximize their profits. Now, I’m not saying there is no passion in these industries, there is, but the ones who call the shots are always trying to squeeze every penny out of their consumers.
If they over-deliver, then sales and player retention won’t be as high for the next content release. It’s a sickening business model. Art media should absolutely be focused on making good quality content, not sustaining and milking it for years and years, eventually and inevitably destroying any semblance of its original identity. It truly is all about money.
