People actually take gunfights in other games.
It is actually shocking, how many people re-peeked, fought back and engaged in fights that didn't start in their favor in other pvp shooters i played again recently since D2's pvp is abandoned by Bungie.
In cod for example, when i hit someone first, they do not icarus dash back to Vietnam with 200 mph speed just to re-engage 5 minutes later. They INSTANTLY fight back. It is so refreshing, let me tell you. I would have never thought that people playing agressive and active was so different in actual pvp games.
Players in D2 literally do anything to not engage in fights. After they miss a sniper shot = icarus dash back to the spawn and think about re-engaging for 2 minutes, get hit once = instantly run away, dodge, icarus dash away to recov. People pre-nading corners, using special grenade launchers to bounce off of walls, using 100 intellect to get super quick. Everything to avoid actual gunfights.
Just thought i'd share this observation since even i, who played pvp fps' forever, almost forgot how proper pvp felt when players actually want to fight lol

1 ReplyEdited by DuBChiri2: 7/13/2021 9:35:40 PMCod only has shoot back an an option so it's not really a surprise. Destiny has a metric shit ton of potential strategies to keep yourself alive or weaken enemies that it's not even comparable. Plus not re-engaging a losing gun fight is kind of the right move. No surprise you encountered the opposite in cod which is infested with squealing pre-pubescent teens and overly aggressive adults. Destiny is just full of neckbeards.

5 RepliesI mean how do think war is like? People run into direct fire and just shooting at each other and dying lol no.
-
Sounds like you have something against Warlocks…
-
No discernible penalty for dying. No incentive for team preservation, let alone self preservation. As long as I get my licks in before I bite it,… screw my team. Those two things stand out in my mind.
-
A more astute observation would be acknowledging the differences between Destiny and CoD.
-
"icarus dash back to Vietnam with 200 mph speed" That should be a meme! Take a bump.
-
🤣🤣, you had me at “icarus dash to Vietnam”.

1 ReplyDifferent games play differently? Shocking.

I think the biggest difference is that D2 uses abilities/supers, while normal FPS games (specifically the one you’re comparing) has mostly fire fights, with the kill streaks tossed in. Destiny gives players the ability to sit back and change up their strategy, while COD doesn’t nearly give you as much wiggle room and options to counter.
-
That's not necessarily unique to destiny. Nowadays in every pvp landscape people will take whatever easy out they can get just to not lose one gunfight.

3 RepliesEdited by Infamous067: 7/13/2021 4:28:04 AMPrimaries are more enjoyable in COD too, my only issue with COD is how freaking fast ttk is across the board. If cod had a bit slower ttk and some form of powers like destiny then I would drop destiny in a heart beat. The closest COD ever got to destiny was black out 4 and that was my favorite COD ever. The specialist sucked and COD overall is a cash grab which is why I cant support their games anymore.

In cod for example, when i hit someone first, they do not icarus dash back to Vietnam with 200 mph speed just to re-engage 5 minutes later. They INSTANTLY fight back
That is because they are idiots and don't know how to play. Never take a losing fight. That's just plain -blam!-. Watch ANY competitive COD4 videos from TeK9 Stevvy and other world class teams and you won't see people doing stupid shit like taking losing fights.
-
Because in those games, your primary kills fast enough that it’s the most efficient way to play In Destiny, it’s run around and space OHK weapons until you run out of ammo. Team shoot with your primary until you get ammo back, the rinse and repeat.

1 ReplyThe biggest difference between d2 and other fps games is the skillgap, or lack thereof. You can get good at destiny, at least on PC, startlingly fast. This leads people to believe they are cracked out sweat players, so they start running top dawn and a sniper but then like you say they miss and cant do anything without icarus dash. People are afraid of taking fights because they get tapped up and realize that they are not as good as they think, plus because of the slide movement in this game it is really easy to disengage and rengage into fights so it is very low risk high reward to play the way you are describing. Get headshot once, slide into cover, heal, slide out and win off of peaker's advantage. The destiny 2 classic

4 RepliesSounds like you are describing destiny’s PvP. The other games are not destiny’s PvP… Why would they be the same? Why should destiny’s PvP be a gun fight only game when we have all these abilities and weapons to use? I get it that it would be cool if bungie provided a gun only mode in the PvP offerings… But it is not ever going to be that style of game nor would said mode be overly popular to the larger population of this specific game.
-
Forgot cod was a space magic game, silly me.
-
Ummm server quality first of all...and do other fps games have the all time stupidest perk of slideshot???
-
Csgo which people think is maybe the most gun skill reliant game is heavily dependent on utility, ditto valorant... abilities and utility are just part of gaming now
-
Yeah it’s weird that IB casual modes where deaths don’t mean anything many players run and hide from every fight they don’t have a 100% chance of winning. It may also be linked to the amount of players that sit far back and just watch one angle. I think it’s genuine lack of skill. The majority of destiny players have negative kds by a good margin at that despot playing the way they do

1 ReplyThe other PvP games aren’t a tacked on mode to PvE ?

3 RepliesEdited by WulfPak666: 7/12/2021 11:38:11 PMI've left and returned to CoD many times throughout my days and last two times I've returned, it didn't change much. Still the same 3 types of players. You have a few rushers rocking 99x sensitivity, bunny hopping, dolphin diving, dick sliding, acting like every match they play is a montage reel for Optic or a multi-million dollar tournament. You have people bunkered down camping a single doorway with a shotgun, trip mines, etc... Then you have the people who just walk around and get excited when they don't miss 6 of the 30 bullets they shoot at someone and managed a kill. Destiny has the exact same 3 players too. The tryhard, bunny hopping, shadestepping, Icarus dashing, ice sliding Handcannon shotty bois who I believe play like they're clenching a turd and are about to loose it at any moment so they have to play as fast and hard as they can. Then you have the corner peaking lane campers who never leave their designated spot, usually a pulse rifle or fusion rifle main. Then you have the Average Dan who just walks around and tries to finish bounties. Both games have the same type of players, the only difference is CoD has a ttk of .3 seconds and Destiny has a ttk on average of .7-.8 which gives you more wiggle room to gtfo and escape gun fights. When you play sweaty CoD matches you find a lot more corner peakers and try hards, same as destiny.
-
That’s a weird way of saying you haven’t played any decent players in CoD
-
They retreat until their grenade / melee ability regen
