I was with a group today and we also noticed these.

I showed my friend and he noticed it too, on his own computer. I keep thinking they look like helmets or almost like shanks with a spike on top.

my friend is convinced they are cabal heads / helmets. my guess is bungie has an event or server side update, and these are visible under the right conditions, like the lost forest, etc.
