Preface: I love this game. I feel sad it cannot reach it's potential, and Bungie's absolutely 🔥🔥🔥 (best trailers in gaming) advertising team has betrayed my trust.
I just want to give a comparison, for those keeping track at home, based upon the claim that BL is bigger than Shadowkeep.
BL: 3 new subclasses which are incredibly cool to use but are a living hell to get (18 rng drops for killing PvP opponents in duskfield grenades before frozen.)
Shadowkeep: 2 PvP maps
Beyond light: -11
Shadowkeep: 1 Dungeon
BL: 0 dungeons
Shadowkeep: No weekly challenges
BL: 3 weekly rotating challenges
Shadowkeep: 8 nightmare hunts
BL: 3 slightly longer Empire hunts.
Shadowkeep: 2 new strikes
BL: 1 new and 1 returning strike, with -10 ish so net -8
Shadowkeep: Public activity with unique loot (Altars)
BL: No new public activities, just brig event with 2 blues and a token loot.
Shadowkeep: GoS
BL: DSC, which is a better raid, but -5 raids.
BL: 5 More exotics than Shadowkeep. Sunset over 1000 weapons.
Shadowkeep: 3 ritual weapons, gambit maps preserved, and slightly more weapons. No sunsetting.
Shadowkeep: 6 man match made 20 minute activity with mechanics for season pass.
BL: 1 man 5 minute boss spam that requires hours of boring core playlist activities to draw it out.
BL has an objectively better campaign and post campaign by a mile.
Just wishing there was more in BL to replay. The first few hours are fire, and than it falls off, and personally now I am bored. Bungie, focus on the replay value of your game. We need dungeons, we need legendary weapons. Please, just add something worth replaying. DSC is fantastic, and if you consolidated exo challenges into a dungeon they would be great, but right now there is less to the mid and endgame than Shadowkeep due to the DCV.
It is difficult to gauge the actual size, but in regards to endgame, Shadowkeep wins. Luke Smith, I love you m8, but you gotta focus on this stuff if you want to talk about how big the game is.
Also, keep in mind Shadowkeep was 15 dollars cheaper as it came with the season.
Edit: I am including sunset content not to show that BL in a vacuum was bad, but that sunsetting old content created a vacuum that BL needed to adequately fill.

1 ReplyI decided not to buy this DLC. The fact that there’s no new dungeon really turned me off.
-
2 RepliesJust don't buy it if you don't think it's worth it 🤷♂️

9 RepliesI guess creating a bunch of open empty areas on a planet is concerned more nowadays. I'm laughing right now, see Luke attempted to make BL seem like it was this "really big deal". The fact is, his deal was to fill in the empty space/lack of engaging content was to add the copy and paste IB/Dawning and the cheap seasonal content the player base had to pay for just to get some loot added to the game 😂

1 ReplyThey word it that way to be “technically correct” Europa is the largest new area. In square feet. The moon is a reused asset, so shadowkeep wasn’t the largest “new” release. Whenever Bungiebsays something it’s worded to be technically true while not meaning what the community thinks it means.

10 Replies3 new subclasses & a new planet justifies BL being more expensive than shadowkeep.

13 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 12/23/2020 12:32:48 PMBecause their is more to the game than "end game". Beyond Light is a bigger, more balanced offering that Shadowkeep. In fact, its JUST under the size of what they gave us with Forsaken. The difference is that most of the activities that are in Beyond Light are built around the open world and keep you IN that open world (kind of like an Assassin's Creed game). The problem is that many Destiny players are used to turning up their noses at that aspect of play....and only focus on activities that take you out of that world: strikes, dungeons, raids etc. ...and your post shows that same bias. The content is there. You just don't like the form that its in, and presumably don't want to engage with it.

1 ReplyEveryone assumes what Lukey Smith said in a vidoc or wherever he said that Beyond Light had more to do is gospel. What else is he going to say? I read his words that his interpretation of content was greater than Shadowkeep. All this season is, is an exact copy of last season using different vendors and bull like the cryptoglyph (which has already been used to death). Doing the same shit, with neutered rewards is what we’re doing with a new ability in stasis. Which will totally be nerfed to shit after the New Year.

1 ReplyEdited by Oinkthebaconking: 12/23/2020 2:17:57 PMSubtracting content as if it were part of the DLC is flawed at best. An absolute skewing of reality at worst. Then again, you're phrasing and slang makes it clear you are barely above childhood.... soooo Play or don't, it makes no difference to anyone but you. However, if you don't work on your complete belief that you are the center of the Universe and that prevarication is okay if you believe it's "for the greater good" you will always be an unhappy person and a failure at everything you do.

10 RepliesI just hit 1260 light on all 3 characters, now what? There’s seriously nothing left to do.
-
1 ReplyBecause Shadowkeep assets already existed so it took less time to produce.
-
3 RepliesI wonder how long it will take for the delusional fanboys to chime in with their "the expansion is still new, more content is coming" bull shit.
-
1 ReplyExo challenge is great though
-
4 RepliesThis company knows only bare minimum. Also vex offensive

8 RepliesEdited by Lore Oradon: 12/23/2020 7:46:58 AMBeyond light does have a Dungeon.

10 RepliesTo play devil's advocate, I don't think you can fairly count sunsetting as Beyond Light content. People who did not purchase Beyond Light still lost content, and I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have gotten any additions from Shadowkeep if they didn't fork over some cash. Sunsetting is a seperate problem and I think it should be regarded as such. I'm going to focus on just the additions and not the removals attributed to sunsetting. 4 RepliesDid mot read psot but did read title. How can u say desiny does not have endgame? Destiny an marvel r two deffernet thinggs! Does not make sense! Plus! Walking around new “fantsays land” is very fun! Much inded! Sory u not feel good with destiny! Hop u hav fun wich futur indever!

I agree with you on everything
-
Exactly what i was thinking

1 ReplyExpansions are just for raids now
-
6 RepliesSeasons even during ShadowKeep were only $10, not $15. ShadowKeep was $40, Beyond Light was $40. You can argue that ShadowKeep was a better value at $40. And I might agree. Especially since it did come with the Season included. I think the Undying seasonal activity was more interesting than the Wrathborn Hunt. It was also neat seeing the portal on the Tower get built week over week. There doesn’t seem to be anything happening week over week with these Hunts. Either way, I think I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of Beyond Light in terms of hours played. I’ve definitely played $60 games for less time. And I’m still going to play more. Will probably unlock stasis on my Hunter and Titan, and at some point I’m going to do the Raid.

9 RepliesI though bungie said BL isn't going to be as big as forsaken OR shadow keep. not defending them or this dlc but I'm pretty sure they said they can't make big content drops like those anymore because they dont have help from other developers anymore.
-
4 RepliesThere are no nightmare hunts in BL. They are campaign missions we can replay on master difficulty for a pinnacle. That’s very different. I agree with the raid part. Shadowkeep delivered a complete raid that required aiming and some skills. Beyond light delivered a raid lair that requires no skill or aiming. But then again, the guy who designed all raids up to shadowkeep has resigned. So we got to give to the new guy the credit of it not being too bad for a first.

1 ReplyIt isn’t. Bungie said as much.

Getting my 🍿 ready for the defense to pile up. It will hopefully make me smile!
