No. The umbral focusing feature is not as good as anyone thinks it is. We've had modes like Menagerie and even Sundial that let you actual pick the reward you want. This made farming so much better. Now, we have a system with a 50/50 chance of getting the item you want. Just no. I can't tell you how many swords I ended up with trying to get a decent pulse rifle roll. One time I turned in 8 engrams and got 2 pulse rifles and 6 swords. Biungie seem to have no idea how to handle reward RNG and just keep trying something different every season. This isn't the answer. I don't want a 50/50 chance to get a reward out of an already random drop.

  • It's still better than complete randomness

  • I can't possibly understand how you'd think that a 50% chance is somehow worse than a 8% chance (100 divided by the 13 items available in IB right now). Sure I'd love it too if I could choose the exact reward I got every time but you can't say that having a 50% chance is bad.

  • I never said anything about it being better or worse than IB I was saying it's worse than the 100% chance we had in modes like menagerie and sundial

I get better on random rolls, focus is rubbish on armour stats.

  • More "specific"/choosable loot for specific activity, I'm ok. More random (but not totally random) loot for more general activity, I'm ok too.

  • I mean, the benefit to umbrals is you get them by doing literally anything in the game. So you aren't grinding one activity over and over or exploiting the menagerie chest during the 300 second countdown. So I can see a value in a focusing system for all vendors.

  • Ehy Soul =) I do understand your point. I didn't play the Season of the Dawn so I don't know how the sundial worked, that's why I didn't take it in consideration. About the Menagerie, indeed the possibility to combine Runes in order to choose which prize you get it's very good. Still, you have to go throught the entire Menagerie every time to activate the Chalice and hope to get the roll you wish for. It's a sure drop, but it may take long to get/find the roll you wish for. So, from this point of view, I suppose that Umbral Engrams are a sort of middle ground? Like, you can manipulate your Drop (which is easy, because Umbral Engrams are easy to farm and you don't need to go throught a specific Activity all the time to get them), but you don't obtain immediately that exact drop you want, there is this kinda of "random" layer you must go throught. Indeed you're right when you say that Bungie doesn't know how to deal with the Drop/RNG. But are we sure that the fact that they change system almost every Season is a signal of this? Maybe it's just a way to give Players a different kind of approach and experience new things, bad or good. Who knows?

  • You have a point. Perhaps it's a bit of both. I dunno, as a player who's used those previous things to farm weapons, I just find it frustrating with the current 50/50 chance. Maybe it is a bit more frequent given engrams tend to drop often though, and maybe I've just had some really bad RNG with it? Not sure if others have found it the same like that. I guess I just find it more rewarding when you actually do an activity and pick a reward, like it feels more like you're actually earning something and being rewarded for it. No doubt it will all be totally different next season anyway!

  • Well, you must take in consideration that the fact that one single Engram can give only two possible drops, it doesn't mean that you have a perfect 50% chance of drop for each. For example, the Engram that can give you or Cold Denial or Falling Guillotine doesn't specify that they have both the same % of drop. Cold Denial could have 60% and Falling Guillotine 40%, right? I don't know. I'm never been good with math, so I could be totally wrong. However, for sure, complete an Activity and get a Reward is the best thing. But Bungie gave prof to don't be able to correctly manage the RNG and the drops in general throught the years. Even in Destiny 1...

  •
maybe I've just had some really bad RNG with it? Not sure if others have found it the same like that.
I already have a god roll Gnawing Hunger for both PvP and PvE, and wouldn't mind a perfect one, but I have nothing even good on Night Watch. Earlier this week, I focused a full inventory of 10 Umbrals on the "Bullet-Focused" for the choice between the two. I got 9 Gnawing Hungers. I wish I could get results like that when betting on an event with 512-1 odds...I'd be able to play Destiny as a job, because I wouldn't have to work in real life.
