The DCV and our wasted money

In recent streams and twabs we got talked about the Destiny Content Vault a supposed way to cicle out content and put it in standby to save up space on the game. I've been a supporter since year 1, bought all prereserves for D2 since vanilla. All of them over 60 $ So my question is to everyone else that did the same. Is bungie really just joyfully talking about removing content we paid for so they can put new paid content? All this money spent will serve for jackshit as I don't see bungie just giving supporter veteran players free content. I feel like bungie is clutching too much on destiny 2 instead of moving on for the sake of not making a third part. I paid for rise of iron and still I can play wrath of the machine and the story if I want to, because I paid for it Makes me feel that we don't really own games anymore, just the permission to play them. Since rise of Iron I've been giving money to Bungie and even though most of the times I've regretted that I still had hope. But now I feel we're just getting -blam!-. Honey! It's reset time, time to give me money to take content you paid for away! Yes, bungie... But oh well, the money problem doesn't affect the people who make news about destiny, such as streamers. That's why this isn't really common knowledge.

  • World of Warcraft did the exact same thing. Removing outdated content is a natural part of an 'evolving' game environment.

    • The fact is that the content theyre removing saw a little more than 2% of the total playtime across platforms for the last two seasons. You're money wasn't wasted, you played and had access to the content for years. The DCV was put in place so they wouldn't have to make a D3. So your options are the following: Have content vaulted and brought back for later use, but the content is taken away from you to "play" Or Have all D2 content taken away from you for D3 in which case you will have to pay for all of the content again anyway.

This wouldn't be a problem if they made destiny 3 Whoever wanted to replay the red war campaign they would be able to go back and do so because they paid for it. The same way I can go back and play kings fall because I bought the complete edition of destiny 1 But I guess bungie is too lazy to start fresh 🤷‍♂️

          • If you were still frequently playing all of this old content, I guess I could see the reason for being upset? But considering how little the to-be-vaulted content is played, almost literally nobody is going to miss it.
frickin frick you BUNGO for taking away content I don’t even play
• Yeah I’m glad they’re bringing back old locations but I think it’s kinda ridiculous to take away mercury and mars, not to mention everything else we paid for.

              • Stuff in the DCV better be free when it comes back. I refuse to pay for it again.

                • Bungie is too broke to make a new game . No more Deep Activision Pockets to leech from 👀They have no choice but to stick with the last Century Engine and Game lol The next next Gen is here and their shit is old and weak with no hope but to Hang on to what they have for dear life and hope in the next 3 years sales improve enough to make the sequel . But they won’t , they’ve lied/reskinned/rereleased/ContentVaulted/SunSet Themselves down a road there is no coming back from 👀

                  • You “paid” for it. It’s free now. They can do whatever they want with it.

                  • The vaulted content rarely gets played by anyone. It's good that it's going and being replaced by other things.

                  • If you had fun playing the content when it was "relevant" years ago it's not money wasted or stolen.

                  • You don't actually pay for the content to be taken away. That trash is gone whether you pay or not

                  • How much of that vaulted content do you actually play? I can understand the argument about Leviathan activities going away, but they've been labeled as legacy content now and gear awarded from them are getting sunsetted come next season. I've been playing release and I honestly have not cared about Mars, Io, Mercury, or Titan(may as well vault Titan since they it's a wasted potential) for a long time now. I hate Mars because of Resonate stems that I can't delete if I don't have 4, Io is just pure boredom, Mercury is just pointless, and Titan isn't gonna get an explorable Arcology. The point is, the game is getting too massive and a large chunk of the game has become obsolete and irrelevant. Game download size plays a major role in one's decision to download a game, and I'm sure there are potential players out there who are waiting for the game to reduce in size before giving it a try.

                    • Better off just either making a D3 or just making a content vault we can access separate to the main D2 game, call it "Destiny 2 Legacy" or something and have it just contain the campaigns from the game

                    • #1 Do you actually play that content on a regular basis? Well do you? I am going to assume you don't go down to Titan, Mercury, or Io without a reason like seasonal or a random new exotic quest that happens to be there. Those places basically have no reason to exist because they support a D2 Y1 model rather than the current D2 Y3 or even Y4 of how the game evolves on mechanics. None of the gear there has random rolls for example. #2 You paid for 2-3 years of access to that content. This is the same argument one could make when you watch a movie in theaters and then get angry that it is shown on TV for free a few years later. The content is old, its now been converted to F2P. You experienced the content already and is no longer being used by the community enough to warrent sticking it around anymore. #3 You may have paid for older D1 content but D1 is no longer being updated, D2 is. Also how are you going to access the content when D1 servers shut down?

                    • Everyone's out here complaining that the game is buggier than its ever been, so when Bungie says that their only realistic solution is to cut down on content, I believe them. They update the game, and they overlook a tiny mission, like the strike for Izanagis, and a fix for that has to be quality proofed against the entire brunt of the content of the game, the fix goes through fine. Then, a fix for something like Zero Hour breaks it again, then that fix breaks Telesto, then... It just continues. Bungie is playing whack a mole on a collosal scale, and short of remaking their entire engine, they'll need to cut some stuff out of the game.

                    • You paid for a license to access content while it was relevant, which is no longer the case for legacy content that has been given to players for free.
