Right now, you only synch to servers in the Seattle area 1/10 of the time (10x a second... 1/3 the console refresh rate, potentially worse on PC). If you are having trouble maintaining a quality connection to them now... imagine what it would be like when you are 100% reliant on it. In an active shooter, you don't want to be waiting 1/8-1/4 second on EVERY button press or movement of the joystick before you see the action start rendering on your screen. That is what would happen if this game went to a proper client-dedicated server design for a LOT of people. The game would be playable by a small sector of the population closer to Washington state... East Coast, EU, Australia, and anyone further away--forget about it. You can get away with that somewhat in a game like FFXI that is hosted out of Tokyo... but not a twitchy game like Destiny. That is sometjing some people don't seem to grasp. This game actually DOES have dedicated servers. By the actual definition, not what gamers THINK it means... what gamers think it means is more like a dedicated client-server connection. Dedicated servers are exactly what the words mean... almost literally--servers dedicated to a specific purpose or specific entity(ies) exclusive use. We have that... we just are not forced ro rely on them exclusively--because this game would not work, as mentioned earlier. They would need to set up regional servers around the world, and the data from each of those would need to synch to Bungie in Bellevue in real time, which would also incur extra expense for that backhaul bandwidth as well. People think the Eververse thing is bad now... imagine how bad it could be if they took on all the additional recurring expenses for setting up, insuring, and maintaining all that additional infrastructure, personnel, and bandwidth? Would you want them cramming more Eververse and/or passes down our throats, or alternatively, would you want to pay a monthly sub north of $12/month for the game like Square-Enix does? EDIT: Sorry, not lashing out at you... just see these short responses and few if anyone, tries to address them. There is a lot to digest about how the different models work, and what people are asking for when they toss that out there is just not something this company has the resources to do PROPERLY for this game.

    Bungie would be absolutely dumb enough to get 10hz servers instead of the gaming industry standard minimum of 60hz Edit: also Bungie would never migrate to a monthly platform like Square does, as it would require regular updates and actual work

    @Cosmo, Noticed something odd when looking into my daughter's router last night making sure UPnP was turned on for their PS4's... only a few ports are getting requested. The only one on the recommended list for Destiny 2 was 3074. TCP 1935 and the TCP/UDP 3478:3480 range were not getting forwarded via UPnP. Some other PS4 specific ports were getting assigned and all, but not all the ones on the list specifically for this game. Just curious if perhaps that may be a contributing factor for some of the issues people are having. It is assuring other ports through the firewall (3075 and such) because they are negotiated as outbound first, but was not seeing anything established through UPnP on those other ports (Asus has a log section for port forwarding). Granted, I didn't sit there and watch them run all manner of content (was just remoting in to her router to take a quick look at things). Just struck me as odd if those ports are indeed important and they are not getting requested through UPnP, as that is one of the recommendations. Bungie may need to do some testing on this front? Perhaps you could run this up the flagpole for us? Might make a big difference, especially for the less tech savvy players.

  • Bud, please really re-think before you start trying to help people or relay information. You should know by now that your network guide is complete and utter trash. It does not give any useful advice to people for them to fix any of the problems that the game says they have. And since you guys have no way to contact you about issues with your game how do you expect us to get you to help us?

  • Here's a question for ya. When will Eververse retire? Have any of you thought about putting this stuff in the store as something that drops from, oh I don't know, Public Events? Pretty sure it was made clear by a lot of people during the Mercury expansion showcase, the public event, that two blues and a token does not make the event more worth while.

  • Sure, if Destiny all the way back at the start of the first game was free to play. That's the only excuse I'd somewhat agree with for them to do this. There are more players now in destiny 2. For crying out loud, at some point it was watched more than fortnite. A lot of people bought the seasonal pass. I do not believe at all that they are short on money or in dire need of it. At some point it was said that we'd gain bright dust simple by playing the game. I assumed that they meant it literally. But no. It's all restricted to 6 weekly bounties and a bunch of repurchasable bounties that's gives a pitiful amount of 10 dust each. And only 3 vendors provide them at the tower. All the rest give nothing, not even Ikoras vex bounties. All of this was done to lead us more to actually buying silver.

  • Current match making in crucible is horrible. The amount of glitching players I'm matched up against is ridiculous. Change it back to connection based. I'll take my chances against a crucible legend, then some noob 10,000 miles away from me glitching all over my screen not taking damage.

    Cozmo you guys use your old halo servers and infrastructure. The fact is the game is running on old tech and you're trying to make it work on new hardware. Hardware that is to fast for what you've used to build your game on. Tell the truth. Until you start with a new engine, not one based on halo reach and set up for ps3 and Xbox 360 this games errors will continue to happen and there is nothing that can be done to fix the problem.
