While I can see your point, personally the game would be much worse if the whole world wasn’t as sparsely populated as it is. The main focus of the game is how it’s world was left in shambles after a disaster that occurred a century ago. You wouldn’t really get that sense of catastrophe or loss if the world was just filled to the brim with people to see & things to do. The game’s disaster would just feel like a pushover & lack any weight or importance. That’s just my perspective on it.

What about the vague objectives then? Why can’t the game tell me more than just “go here”?

In the game, Link has been asleep for 100 years, needless to say he'll have to catch up on stuff & things may not be the clearest to him. From what I've heard, it really sounds like the game's just not quite your thing & that's okay. But most of your problems with the game seem to be a matter of personal preference rather than flaws of the game itself. Again, nothing wrong with saying you're not a fan of a game, but can't really say BOTW is overrated.

Skyrim’s premise was similar yet the objectives were always helpful. I opened this post by saying that I have an opinion. It’s overrated to me. I can say so if I want because that my opinion.
