Destiny Short Stories // The Duel

The titan’s body collapsed to the ground in a wave of exhaustion. Hours of running through the dark tunnels of the moon have taken their toll. He was originally captured and had his weapons and Light stripped away from him. After a couple minutes, the titan struggled to stand and leaned against the tunnel wall. Its rough surface scuffed his metallic gauntlet and made a grinding noise throughout the caves. Slowly, he limped onward until he entered a colossal underground chamber. Statues of hive gods and generals decorated the sharp pillars that connected the organic roof to the cold steel and stone floor. Lanterns cast the room in a faded green glow and long shadows that stretched from the pillars. A lone hive knight kneeled in the center of the room with its sword clutched within its claws. “Are you lost?” the knight uttered in a foul tongue. It stood up regally as its body cracked from unknown ages of guarding. A chilling cackle emanated from its mouth. “Are you here to kill me?” the titan spoke. “Depends. I haven’t eaten in a while, but I can’t sense any Light from you. I’ll enjoy letting you suffer while you’re here,” the knight said while walking toward the titan. The titan ripped a hive cleaver from a weapon stand near him. Its stony surface held countless divots and chips throughout the blade. To his surprise, the cleaver was evenly balanced and light to hold. “Enlighten me, you monster,” the titan stated as he lifted the cleaver to attack. “I will!” the knight growled out. Their weapons clashed together in loud thuds and rumbles. Although the titan didn’t have any Light left, he was still strong enough to go toe-to-toe with the knight. Each strike reverberated through his body and shook his bones. The knight was relentless and aggressive with each attack and tried to crush the titan under his strength. Swiftly, the titan dodged to the side and slashed at the knight’s head. In response, the knight stabbed the titan through the chest. Silently, they both fell to the ground. The knight’s head tumbled through the air before slamming into a wall. Crimson blood leaked from the titan’s armor as he brought out his dead ghost. “You were the only one who stayed with me till the end,” the titan solemnly said. A shadow crept across his vision as the smell of wet earth filled the room.

My first experience of duels was when I bumped into a Harry Potter fan in fan expo and he did not think like me. He challenged me into a “magical duel” and I accepted it. It was really lame, but hilarious to watch a man child pretend to cast spells against me. But then he got too close, and tried to stab his wand into me like a light saber but I punched him. He squealed like a pig and I said: “polymorphism!” 🤣
