Question about Hive titles for the lore masters

So, ok, lingering question for a while. Hive seem to have overly specific job titles that seem like something right out of the Microsoft Campus in Redmond. I've been really curious. How to hive get these job titles? Like, there's literally one called "Lead Asphyxiator", did he/she/it go to like 4 years of Asphyxiation school and get certed in the latest techniques for depriving someone of oxygen? (Mandatory 3 years of Javascript and C++ assumed as well, Ruby preferred.) Or is this like there's a special super worm who has the divine knowledge of asphyxiation and applies it to this individual, mutating them into a skilled service technician? Like, if Hive tech support arrived, it seems like they would have a guy who does just Kernel updates, and someone who JUST handles userbase issues, and you'd be getting passed around all day. (Which may explain cursed thralls) I know I'm using a kidding tone because the hive are absolutely hilarious, but I am asking seriously, what's up with the hyper specific hive jobs? Are hive a sort of caste system where they're born to be the role they are in, or do they start out as like Thralls and then work their way through like "Slow dipping mechanism school" until they become "Shmelchior: Guy who gets to pull lever to drop guardians into crystal chamber" or "Joey: Bringer of pizza"?

the first part of the title is the entity's name, the second part describes the entity, for example: omnigul will of crota, the first part (omnigul) is how the entity is identified while the second part describes her role, which is to enforce the will of crota Quria blade tranform, the first part is how the mind is identified while the second part describes the minds role, which is to decode the sword logic into something the vex can understand Erosus spawn of Quira, this one is very interesting, the first part again is how the hydra is identified, however the second part is the really interesting part, the second part is saying that the entity who took this hydra was Quria who is a vex mind who was taken by oryx but who had part of itself left, i would not have been savathún who took this hydra because the name states that it was taken by Quria

  • You know how ants maintain a caste society, where each and every member is born to fill a specific role? How they are, from the moment of their birth, forged to fill that role? Warriors are born with razor sharp mandibles, thick chitin armor, and larger size. Workers are small, with mandible specialized to perform the tasks of manipulating and dragging whatever the colony needs. And so on. This sort of specialization occurs in the Hive society as well, in a way. You're born as a Thrall, then shaped by your decisions and abilities (as well as luck in surviving). The more you kill, the greater your strength grows- from Thrall to Acolyte to Knight or Wizard. All non-ascendant (In other words, hive not directly related to a god) can at most become princes (Strong knights, often serving a specific god) or some form of Wizard (This bit is mainly extrapolation, because we don't know what the max rank of a wizard is nor the exact process to become one, beyond it possibly involving magic jelly. Apparently). Specialization often occurs when you reach your 'dead end' and shown aptitude in a specific role. Survive long enough to prove your mastery at a job, and the role is yours. For example, the Lead Asphyxiator likely showed a great ability at strangling victims. This aptitude led to them being given their position. So, there IS training, of a sort- but it's on the individual Hive to survive. It's on the individual Hive to asphyxiate enough enemies to earn the title of Lead Asphyxiator. There are also other ways of achieving specific deviations- for example, Ogres are thrall tormented and subjected to nightmarish rituals to transform them into death engines. Cursed Thrall presumably dropped the maggots into the cauldron to early and got on a Wizards bad side and were given their role (Or they failed in some other way). Specific deviant groups of Hive may also have their own roles and their own ways of assigning ranks- this is just the typical way that it happens. I hope that makes sense and isn't to meandering. Most of this is in the Books of Sorrow and other bits of Hive lore, so look those up if you want more.

It doesnt apply to Hive as much as species like the Cabal. Which the Cabal are more militaristic then anything else, which rank and merit are more important then anything else. Also regarding Taken since taken were forged by Oryx the boss names are more similar to the hive, even if the boss is not hive. But the hive definitely know there place in there own ranks but ultimately follow Sword Logic But all species names are gained through Merit. Which in this case... Merit in the hive is gained by challenging each other. Like we kind of did this indirectly with Crota when we challenged him. Also for example Gahlharan was corrupted by the crown, which he basically saw the ways of the hive and was a “Join or Die” way which “Join or Die” is how hive work. I think also how Malok also worked, though being related to Oryx I guess there is a way of inheriting power, but Malok was strong and the hive was desperate. Final note I guess Savathun and her dreaming city conquer made the hive trust her way more

          • It is a caste system, but is more of a power system. This means no one entity is barred from challenging another powerful entity. This is why we don't see Hive mixed and unified. Thrall - Acolytes - Knights, Wizards, princes - Specific titles. Thrall Ben, Dave, Ryan, Christina, Maria, Stephanie- While attempting to feed their worms inside with death and tribute? Ben dies.- Acolytes Dave to Stephanie now - While again feeding their worms, Christina, Maria, and Ryan all perish to guardians - Stephanie becomes Knight Ryu, in honor of her fallen friends and kills a guardian before it resurrects - Knight Ryu, in her powerful slender decides to challenge long held thrallendian Dave who is now Wizard Husa in order to grow her worm even further. The wizard wins and grows further. The Hive do not sit by with rules and whatnot besides the obvious ones: Sword logic.

          •
As much as this is a hilarious idea, most of how the hive naming scheme works is actually seen through the grimoire card for Urzok, the Hated. Granted, this is conjecture considering none of it is explicitly stated, but the hives names just tend to be based on rank. The hated being the greatest title a lesser hive can be given. Going into the specifics of how those names were chosen tho, it tends to be very abstract concepts. It has some relation to what they do/what they are, but more often than not it isn't something we would get without reading way too much into it. The hive, and most dark beings, operate on those abstracts. Quite frankly, nothing about them makes sense, it's why the vex had to make a specific mind to actually figure out how the hive/ascendant plane work. Trying to think about anything hive related objectively will just result in your own confusion. We don't even know if half the shit we know about the hive is true, because most of that comes from the books of sorrow, which Savathun tells us are not credible sources, but Savathun herself is not a credible source.
Spoiler to avoid text wall. TLDR, Destiny deep lore is crazy and don't think about it.

            • The titles of King/Wizard/Knight etc are all hierarchical and respective of position in said hierarchy, as well in respect to a given duty. Anything extra, such as Lead Asphyxiator, is for, well, dramatic flair, and to inspire awe or fear, depending on the title.

            • So it seems hive get titles by doing something that makes them worthy of a title or they are given a title by the one they serve. Like in d1 urzok the hated was a executioner and therefore hated by hive cause they could be chosen to meet his blade, and omnigal the will of crota was crota's will on Earth, or kranox the graven who defended the world's grave, or xyor, the unwed became the unwed when rezzyl azir killed her husband. So title seem earned through valor in battle/situation or given when hive are chosen for the job.

No not really It's more like...uhm...ok an example Oryx is also called the aspect of discovery Xivu Arath is also called the aspect of war Savathun is also called the aspect of cunning Their given titles reflect what their purpose is or what they're good at. Taken King reflects on how Oryx took the power to Take from his own worm god but also what he does to his enemies and what he is to those taken. Darkblades for example are in their early stages as Knights frowned upon as they wield axes instead of swords as axes are seen as lesser weapons but against all odds they not only surpass other Knights, they eclipse them and are thus deemed worthy as the "bodyguards" or generals of the upper echelon of the Osmium Dynasty (in other words the bodyguards of the really important Hive). Darkblade reflects their closeness to the Darkness and is a title that is used for powerful warriors. ALSO they all do start out as Thrall then are either cursed or after killing enough turn into Acolyte. From that point they can turn into Knights or Wizards at which point they are given control over their own Thrall and Acolyte. So yes kind of like a caste system. Although I have no clue how the ogres fit into all of it as they are said to be uncontrollable

The Hive have a very simple and poetic language, and Hive individuals are often given titles that reflect their feats, personality, status, etc. For example: The Warpriest was named for being a shining example for the Hive in their holy war against all living things. Xyor, the Betrothed was (you guessed it!) betrothed. Oryx, the First Navigator navigated the universe, leading the Hive. Kagoor, World-Render, who split moons and was the “joy” of Oryx’s Court, and her joy was of mastery, rule and dominion

                    • XX: Hive Verse 3:0 — Hive Let us speak of the terrible beauty of becoming ourselves. In the beginning we rode hollow moons from star to star. AURYX said, become as numerous and fertile as seeds in rich flesh, and thus we did become numerous. XIVU ARATH said, become as hungry and defiant as tumors in rich flesh, and thus we became cancerous. SAVATHÛN said, drink of the poisons of the worm, so that you might feed on death, and we did feed. This was preparation for our crusade. Aia! We were thus becoming. A mother Wizard gets fertility from a mate, or from herself. From the Wizard the spawn, from the spawn our Thrall, from the survivors our Acolytes who contend. If they contend well, their worm is fed, and from the well fed worm come Knights and Wizards and Princes. This is us, and our purpose is liberation, our great task is the worship and admiration of freedom, our great hunger is to pursue and eat that which is not free, and to liberate it with devouring. Aiat. This is us, we the Hive.
